I enjoy browsing for interesting comments on various topics. However the simple minded conserve heads have lowered my interest level to a minimum. With their conserve, conserve, conserve entries. Obviously they are extremely limited in their vocabulary or the copy the word from an entry on the comment above?

Accuracy is most important. Nothing is more irritating than to drive a few miles out of your way to find no savings in prices.

As most people have said, accuracy is most important. You don't want to drive somewhere that may be normally out of your way just to find out that the price went up.

THE most important thing is accuracy of prices. Anyone who travels out of their area needs to know where the next cheapest station is on the road. I've done alot of traveling tween GA and OH and it used to be just a stop half way and fill up. but using GB I found that 2 stops (one in tunnel hill, ga and one up in southern oh) were the best way to go.

To me, right now that we have an artificial self-induced by idiots gas shortage in Alpharetta, GA....the most important thing to me is knowing that other states and areas, esp off the interstates, have gas. I travel (some...not much right now) as I am retired and haul a 24 foot RV so I need to know I will not get stuck in the middle of BFE and not be able to get gas for the truck or generator.
And, yes, price is important....but traveling for my art and photography is all I have now as a retiree. (and don't take me apart because I do this...I combine local trips and also bought a trike (3 wheel motor cycle for those that are not in the know) that gets 80 MPG...so I do my share to conserve too...just not giving up my whole life you soccer moms can take your little ones to school everyday instead of putting themon the bus.

The most important thing to me is accuracy and communication. Maybe if we want to be a plus and not just in it for points we need to help each other and be positive. Get the prices and report them.

The site is important to know what is happening, but unless it is easy to use I would not use it.

OK, re-reading this I sound like I'm pissing vinegar here, when these issues are probably just simple mistakes or oversights from the web designer.
Don't take me wrong, this is a great site, Rome wasn't built in two days after all. Keep up the good work! But... Please lose the "5 minutes for editing a post" time limit!!!

OK, I have two remarks.
Fist is concerning the way prices are input.
It would nice if, when posting a price, one is not forced to chose the posting time when we most probably are not keying in the information from the gas station at the time of fill-up.
It would seem the webmaster either doesn't own a car or is one of the few having an active wireless broadband internet connection in his car when reporting a gas price. Yeah, right!
A normal person would be tanking up, doing his/her business and most probably would not be able to access the internet to post the prices for several hours or even the following morning.
Forcing the user to set the time of the price, like it is now, to the posting time or later rather than earlier like it should be is just plain dumb.Secondly, What's with the prices showing up as pictures instead of numbers. What a waste of bandwidth, plus is forces people who cannot access broadband and do not load pictures to save on download time to go through the whole picture download process.
Maybe there is a 'security' reason behind this but how paranoid can one become of people if transforming all figures into pictures is done to prevent 'lifting' the figures?! Come one! What's the big deal? The pictures aren't bot proof, they only hassle the legitimate user!

GoldBus: The way you have prices for every station in town is you learn them and post them, or you convince other people throught your town to post prices. There's no shortcut. It's not like it's mandatory that every station posts its gas or diesel prices.

Personally, I'd like the site to have prices for every station in town. With that being said, I like lots of accurate information, so I can determine where the cheapest gas is for me to purchase. I will go some place closer to fill up if it will cost me more rather than to drive somewhere farther away to purchase cheaper gas.

Don't get me wrong, I'm thankful for sites like this and the information it provides so that we as consumers can find the most affordable fuel in our area. I also appreciate the the huge # of volunteers who are out there capturing prices daily.
That said, I don't want the purpose of the site to be lost, and it should provide-- 1. Accurate information 2. A significant quantity of information 3. Be user friendly
That anyone can/would go in and update prices merely to gain points, isn't right (see user Cindyseucj in Las Vegas, below), hence more reason for bulk updating by stations themselves; then again, there's no central database of prices since stations change their own prices based in their situations, and there's no guarantee they'll be honest with bulk updating, if its going to create traffic to their location.
I agree with GasBuddy below--I'm missing the value of adding point levels and additional car symbols, other than feeding ego. If points & levels are truly that important to you, couldn't you put some of your energy toward other non-profits and organizations that need more volunteer work, i.e. saving environments/species/wetlands/rain forests/etc, health and medicinal organizations; children's organizations/foundations, and so on?
I don't mean to sound idealistic or on a soapbox, but I'd hope people are here to help and its not about anonymous recognition; there are so many to other places that need help too. Nixthe expanded point structure, and focus on the basics.
I'm not a pc/internet pro, but it should be easy to use, in all ways. i.e. > Every time I log in, I'm still given a list of stations up to 50 miles away, and so I have to go back to the start and input my zip. Frustrating.
> updating a station listing isn't easy. I wanted to include additional types of fuels offered, and can't.
I'm not bashing, and appreciate suggestions & constructive criticism, as these are my own thoughts and opinions. I continue to idealize that we're all one people, for the same cause, and will work to make Corporations (and thus those of us who make them up) responsible and accountable in the global society, to do what is RIGHT for humankind, not to make a dollar at humankind's expense. Now go get those gas prices! :)

I just drove out of my way by quite a bit to a station recommeded by a user on this site. All three prices were wrong, and the owner said they did not raise the prices today. How can we prevent people doing that? I tried to correct the post, but it only put my post with the true prices way down on the list.

I just want to be able to log on and easily find what the gas prices are in which areas of town. That way I can plan my trips and fill up where it'll save me the most money. Saving 10cents/gallon isn't worth driving all the way across town for. It'll cost me more than that just to drive there if that's the only reason I'm going to that part of town.

I agree with Gas_Buddy & SoccerFanatics that quantity of prices is important.
I've been surprised at not finding some local, easily accessed stations when I've searched by station & area.
Another thing important to me is ease of use of the site's pages. As a new user/reporter, it has taken awhile to plow through and learn some of the quircks. (Just thought -- didn't take time to take the "tour". That probably would save me grief.) Meanwhile, I have a question - When searching for certain station names in an area, is there any way we can see all prices at once - i.e., not search just by a single grade?
All in all, I like this service and am more aware of possibilities of alternate routes that take me past lower-price gas stations.
Thanks to all of you!

Quantity of prices is probably first, with accuracy second. Quantity of prices means more chance that someone will list a lower price station nearby or along the route to work. Accuracy - I once made a typo and submitted a price that was $1 too low, but I doubt that caused anyone a problem. Only errors of a few 10's or cents will make people go to the wrong station.

I can live with the occasional mis-posting of a price. Most prices are posted in good faith and I'm smart enough to know that if gas prices in my area are generally in the $3.99 to $4.39 range, that if I see a price of $3.14, it's probably a simple typing error, and that if I see a price of $4.89 it's probably an error, regardless of what the real price is; I can simply compare that price with other stations in the same area.
For that reason, because the errors are either few or obvious, quantity of prices provides me with more options.
What fascinates me is that 2% of the 7,306 respondees (about 150 members) think that collecting points is the most important part of the website. Collecting points anonymously is important? If it is, I'd be afraid to know what else is important in their life.

accuracy of addresses of stations and accuracy of prices are a MUST. some stations are updated daily throughout the week, but once Friday afternoon hits, there's no update until Monday.

I would have to suggest there 3 are 'most important' things: accuracy, timeliness, and geographic relevancy of the information.

I would like to see the balance of message forums become shifted towards commuting- and/or transportation-related issues. Since the focus of this web site is on gas prices, it's not important to me on this web site where someone is from or the latest status of a sports team. Although I am a new member, I have not seen a message forum regarding the '511' phone number that provides real-time traffic information for drivers in the South Florida region.

prices are important. However, it seems that they can change at a moments notice. That makes it hard to seem accurate. You can get an idea of the cheaper prices by it.
