Yes, I posted here back in 2008 that I would the next time I purchased a new vehicle. At the time, I was driving a vehicle with an EPA estimated highway rating of 34 mpg. In February, I bought a new, 2013 Mazda 3, with an estimated highway rating of 39 mpg.
Present gasoline prices are actually a bit lower since I posted in 2008, but the increasing taxation across America means that the prices will be higher, even if oil prices drop.

With Canadian prices currently down to $1.28, prices are finally under $5.00 / gallon. (Although many Canadian prices are still above $5.00.)

Of course $1.50 / litre is $5.68 / gallon. And $4.00 / gallon is $1.06 / litre. So the question is kind of inconsistent.

No. I couldn't afford one if I wanted one. It'd be public transportation for me when I'm priced out of the market.

P.S. the price of gas is over $4.00 a gallon. Heck it is over $5.00 a gallon here. $1.50 per litre is $5.68 per gallon. So the question is different for litres and gallons.

Just depends on the cars out there. My main concerns are safety (no smart cars) and comfort. After that, mpg factors in.

It looks like there is a typo in this question - $4/gallon is $1.05/litre. Since our dollars are close to par, one can compare without an exchange rate.
The Canadian price was over $1.05 in the summer of 2006. So asking in 2007 is sort of a moot point. At $1.25 today ($5/gallon) $1.05 would be a huge bargain. Those were the days . . .

I purchase a new vehicle about every 4 years and maintain the same level of monthly payments; my vehicle therefore always has warranty coverage and fresh tires... I start looking for a new vehicle about a year before I am ready to buy; to see what is in the marketplace.

Not as long as my little Honda holds out, Great on gas, some sacrifices in comfort, but clean interior, over 200,000 miles and still going strong. Cheap insurance and NO payments.
