Compound words are two related words that are joined to make a new word with a more specific meaning, not just a series of letters that happen to make a "word" - but and ton or butt and on do not have any connection to each other. "Compound words are two little words which are put together to make one larger word. The large word RETAINS THE ORIGINAL MEANINGS of the small words – it’s just more expressive and less wieldy than using the words separately." -- from a grammar website. That's why "issue" is not a compound word. The words have to have a connection to each other.

"Issue" isn't a compound word.

I found arcin in an old dictionary, which I do not want to have to resort to for 1 point. But I did. My word was curls. If you don't know the word, skip it. thanks.

I guess we will just have to agree to disagree :)

Hi, just an observation... "less" is a suffix to a word, it does not really make a compound word. effortless = without effort, worthless = without worth. Not trying to criticize, it's just that I'm a grammar teacher ;)
