@kwikr, I can't imagine how it would be unsafe for a competent driver. And why it would be illegal anywhere (not that I doubt the possibility) is ridiculous. Finally, unless someone has a strange vehicle which drives the transmission fluid pump from something other than a belt, there's no reason new fluid wouldn't be circulating even in neutral.

Coasting in neutral is unsafe, and illegal in some states. It is also very bad for an automatic transmission.
