The unions aren't that strong anymore. The unions have been weakened by their 2005 and 2007 contract negotiations. I just talked to my brother who retired from GM, and his dental coverage used to be free and now it is $100.00 per month. There is now a two tier hourly wage of $14.00 and $28.00, much lower than the $33.00 prior. GM is lean and their ATP's on each sales are higher than they ever have been. Obama is out of the picture, after he mishandled the whole bankruptcy issue and sold the taxpayers equity for a $10,000,000,000 loss. Obama DID reward the union with their equity share, but salary and benefts are no on par with foreign transplant employees. Over the last 4 years, Ford, GM, and Chrysler have building market share against Toyota, Honda, and Nissan , after losing share for decades. It is definitely a new day for the domestic automakers! Thanks for listening Robert.
