Regardless of his participation - Trump didn't participate either - he did lose out. He's not a conservative except to the religious zealot crowd.

service66, Mike Huckabee didn't "lose out" at CPAC. He didn't take part.

Huckabee's viability is an open question, but he's by no means done. And if he did get the GOP nomination, he would not be the one to lose.

"Mike Huckabee was absent from CPAC and recent straw polls seem to place him as not a contender."

Huckabee is a social conservative fighting unwinnable fights. And he's a fiscal liberal, which fits with the Republican Establishment, but the trend is away from that sort of thing.

Not surprising that he lost out at CPAC, much the same way he'd lose to Hillary.

Mike Huckabee was absent from CPAC and recent straw polls seem to place him as not a contender.

On the plus side, he has been plugging his book "God, Guns Grits and Gravy" on a book tour -- no doubt, taking the temperature of the electorate and gauging support.

We'll see later this spring, when he makes his announcement, one way or the other.

The 2016 GOP field is starting to take shape, given that Mitt Romney, Jeb Bush -- and Mike Huckabee -- are actively considering runs.

In Huckabee's case, he announced last weekend on his Fox News TV show that he was ending the show rather than rule out a run for the presidency. He stated he will make a decision "later this spring."

I would look forward to runs by Huckabee and Jeb Bush. There are others I would like to see run, like Paul Ryan or Scott Walker.

Mitt Romney, not so much. He had his chance when he got the 2012 nomination to run against an unpopular President, and still managed to lose. He was too risk-averse and consequently, not aggressive enough while campaigning.

jayrad1957, >>... this what your esteemed mr Huckabee had to say about N. Korea. Talk about in foot-in-mouth-disease.... <<
~
You must have missed or misread his exact words of, “My gosh, I’m beginning to think that there’s more freedom in North Korea sometimes than there is in the United States,” he continued. “When I go to the airport, I have to get in the surrender position while people put hands all over me,” Huckabee lamented. He did not mention that the Transportation Security Administration came into being under a Republican president."

His sarcasm of our Government's failing answer to a serious problem should noted and not made light of.

Think Progress also failed to mention that the sunset provisions of "The Patriot Act" which suspends portions of our Constitution, were extended AND INCREASED by BOTH parties.

Many still FEEL safer under this intrusion but that would be another topic, wouldn't it?

The Huckster sounds deranged to me. I haven't felt my freedom being curtailed in any way, so I can't relate to his public sentiments.

daylily2009, you are not really advocating your cause, just repeating platitudes. If you started this topic to actually support Mike Huckabee, you should actually discuss. You might, for example, answer the statement I made on March 28.

I heard on cable news today that the Huckster will not run in 2016 -- but that John Ellis Bush will. We'll see.

daylily2009's lead post: "Could Mr. Huckabee beat Hillary Clinton?"

I think *if* Mike Huckabee ran and *if* he got the GOP nomination (2 big *if*s there), he would have a good shot at beating Hilary Clinton.

Mike Huckabee is a personable candidate who is also an articulate advocate of conservative policies, social as well as economic. Recent elections show that personality wins, if conservative policies are not asserted. (That's why the charismatic but leftist Barack Obama beat 2 charisma challenged Republicans who downplayed conservatism).

Hilary Clinton, on the other hand, is a smart campaigner with lots of connections to the Democratic elite, which will win her the Dem nomination if she wants it. But her personality is lacking. And although she can tone down liberalism if she wants, she is anything but conservative.

The 2 *if*s:

- Although Huckabee is dropping hints on his Fox News TV show that he is considering running, he would have to give up the lucrative income from that show, and start the hard work of building a campaign organization and raising funds as soon as he announced.
- Huckabee will face competition from other GOP contenders, likely including Rand Paul, Ted Cruz and perhaps Chris Christie, as well as others we don't know about yet.

So it's a tad premature to get on the "Huckabus".

...What we as constituents need....really need...is a person of strong character that we are unlikely to ever see run for office: an average, "middle-class" or even "lower-class" person (not a "career politician") with a good, level head on his/her shoulders that will not be bought off by corporate or party interests because his/her love of "We the People" runs too deep...and despite my usual incurable optimism, the reason that I doubt we will ever see such an entity is because "The System" is stacked against him/her:

"Campaigning for US president can be a very expensive proposition. Running a campaign to win a presidential primary can range in cost from $50 million US Dollars (USD) to over $100 million USD. By itself, this cost is already enormous, but there’s even more that must be spent to run for president. Once the primaries are over and the nominees begin their campaigns to win the general election, an additional $75 million USD is typically spent." "How Much Does it Cost to Run for President?"

While I would not likely ever vote for a Creationist like Huck in a general election, I probably have already voted for him in a primary.
