Gov. Walker and his band of extreme right wing nuts want to change our state constitution.

The chief judge has always been the senior judge on the court.

Judge Shirley Abrahamson is the longest serving judge and is the chief justice.

The right wingers want to change the constitution and have the seven judges elect the chief judge.

Why?

Because they have a 4 to 3 advantage with their conservative judges.

RN: "would be moaning and whining about how liberals have no respect for the constitution (state or otherwise) and are destroying the country."

Not at all. They are seeking to change the state constitution by following the proscribed procedure for doing so. Having no respect for the constitution involves doing things in violation of the constitution because you don't have the votes to change it, and trying to get judges to approve said violations. That's not what Gov. Walker is trying to do.

State constitutions are more like rule books to organize each state and the machinations of government.
Here in Ohio, ease of amending the state constitution (gather signatures, place issue on ballot, simple majority passage) has led to it becoming a repository of various and sundry junk. Everything from a exemption for soda pop producers from tax on materials, to the establishment of gambling casinos, to banning cigarette smoking in virtually all public buildings, to allowing the sale of colored oleomargarine (1949 on that one).
The basic Constitution (adopted 1851) seems straight forward enough, until you look at the amendments! Count 121 passed and 104 defeated.

Change the laws? Didn't Obama do that unilaterally regarding the employer mandate? Can you point out anywhere in the 2000+ page law where it says that the president can delay the mandate on his own?

Yeah, I thought so!

Is that a loud flip flopping sound coming from the far right cons?

They demand that no one can touch any of the constitution as far as gun laws, etc.
But when it will pad their bottom line, they are all for it.

Does it annoy you when people are self-righteous hypecrites?

Wasn't that same scenario the "justification" for ObamaCare?

Shoe, meet other foot.

Seems that FDR had similar ideas with the Supremes.

"I thought you left wing types were all about constitutions being a "living document" "

Only when it supports their version of the constitution. Gun control = living document. Voting laws = no changes allowed unless it allows "undocumented Democrats from Mexico" to start voting.

But yet, I'm sure if it were the other way around, these same folks who say:

"Good for them! I hope they succeed!"

would be moaning and whining about how liberals have no respect for the constitution (state or otherwise) and are destroying the country.

Can you say www.rightieswithdoublestandards.net???

Elections have consequences. Don't like the winner elect someone else.
