Constitution Day Resources

While many have misunderstood our Constitution, I have read many comments within the US politics forum that demonstrate a blatant disregard for the document that has helped us become and remain the great nation that we are.

Those disparaging remarks are obviously protected by the targeted document itself, but at the end of the day, are of little consequence.

When those in power, however, show the same disregard, then we have a problem that demands attention.

ABC News - Court Rules Obama NLRB Appointments Unconstitutional

And many others to consider as well...

Obama has compiled a lengthy list of violations

-Launching an illegal war in Libya. [Article I, Section 8]

-Undermining the nation’s armed forces. [Article II, Section 2]

-Violating religious freedom. [1st Amendment]

-Appointing agency “czars” without Senate approval. [Article II, Section 2]

-Forcing Americans to buy health insurance. [Article I, Section 8]

-Refusing to enforce laws that he doesn’t like. [Article II, Section 3]

-Violating equal protection and voting rights. [14th Amendment]

-Attacking a state for upholding federal law. [10th Amendment]

Feel free to defend Obama on any or all of those alleged infractions or add any others that are not mentioned here.

The point is, we should at least care. Whether past Presidents acted in similar ways or not, it should not be acceptable now or in the future.

Professor Or Not, Obama Repeatedly Flunks Constitution Law Tests

"As a constitutional lecturer and presumed legal scholar, his academic career must have crossed paths at some time with our nation’s founding document which established three co-equal branches of government, an Executive Branch, a Congress with legislative responsibility, and a Supreme Court with top judicial authority.

While the president has authority to check the Legislative Branch by recommending legislation to be passed by Congress, or through presidential veto, he or she cannot legislate through executive fiat or pick which parts of the law to comply with or decline. Nor can a chief executive defy judicial rulings from the highest court in the land. Here, Article 2, Section 3, Clause 5 of our Constitution requires that the president “…shall take care that the Laws be carefully executed.”

"if an imperial president is allowed to ignore separations of powers and pick and choose which laws to enforce… then what is the point of electing a Congress in the first place?"

When I was in 1st and 2nd grade we would celebrate "May Day" in school. Then we changed that day's celebration to "Law Day" to celebrate our constitution. I was told it was because the Soviets used the same day to brag about their ideology. How far we have fallen since then.

Perhaps it should be Constitution wake day. That might be more appropriate.
