Illinios Finally Gets Concealed Carry

-

11 July 2013
-
Both the Illinois House and Senate on Tuesday voted to override Gov. Pat Quinn’s revised gun bill, making the state the last in the country to allow firearms to be carried in public.

The Senate voted 41-17 after the House’s 77-31 vote to override Quinn’s amendatory veto that wanted to keep guns out of places that serve alcohol and impose a one-gun limit.

The Illinois State Rifle Association congratulated the Illinois General Assembly for overriding Governor Quinn’s recent veto of concealed carry legislation. By overriding the veto, the general assembly is affirming that law-abiding Illinois citizens have a right to defend themselves with the most effective means available – the defensive firearm.

“Over the past several weeks, the good people of Illinois have had to endure political showmanship, political gamesmanship, and ultimately political brinkmanship,” commented ISRA Executive Director Richard Pearson. “But, in the end, good sense won out over the gun control extremists and Illinois now has a framework in place to allow citizens to defend themselves.”

The votes came just before a midnight federal appeals court’s deadline to allow Illinois residents to carry concealed guns.

Last I heard illinois won't recognize out of state licenses but will issue one for a modest fee of $300 unless something changed at the last second!

Iowa started out with some counties as shall or may issue. I believe that all counties are now "shall issue". Our sheriff faught that for some time until several of us got it passed to make our county a shall issue county.

I wish the citizens of Illinois well in this new law. It's been a long time coming. Did anyone see the death stats just for the city of Chicago for the July 4th weekend? It was a big count as I remember. Of course with their "tuff laws" on guns, there should have been zero deaths, however, thugs and other criminals don't care about gun laws, right?

I think the original bill included for it to be a "shall issue", but I don't know now that they did the override vote. I'm in favor of CCW and shall issue.

But will Illinois become a "may issue" state, or a "shall issue" state?
