Heritage letter to Republicans on Capitol Hill: Don’t legislate, just scandalize Obama

In a letter to members of Congress, which was obtained by NBC News, Heritage Action for America, the lobbying arm of the Heritage Foundation (which recently found itself in hot water over the racial IQ theories of the co-author of their widely panned immigration reform study, Jason Richwine, who resigned from the think tank last Friday), urged Republicans on Capitol Hill not to govern, and instead, to focus on the would-be “scandals” plaguing the Obama administration.

The letter, which is addressed to House Speaker John Boehner and House Majority Leader Eric Cantor, trumpets the negative media buzz surrounding the White House, saying that, “for the first time, the activities of the Obama administration are receiving a sustained public vetting. Americans’ outrage over Benghazi is amplified by the Internal Revenue Service’s intimidation of conservative grassroots organizations and a cascade of negative headlines. There is the real sense the Obama administration has been less than forthright with the American people, the press and lawmakers.”

In light of the white hot media spotlight on the administration, and to deflect attention from the many policy areas where Republicans don’t quite get along, the letter urges: “it is incumbent upon the House of Representatives to conduct oversight hearings on those actions, but it would be imprudent to do anything that shifts the focus from the Obama administration to the ideological differences within the House Republican Conference.”

“To that end, we urge you to avoid bringing any legislation to the House Floor that could expose or highlight major schisms within the conference. Legislation such as the Internet sales tax or the FARRM Act which contains nearly $800 billion in food stamp spending, would give the press a reason to shift their attention away from the failures of the Obama administration to write another ‘circular firing squad’ article.”

The letter is signed by Heritage Action’s Chief Executive Officer, Michael A. Needham.

"I don't recall any great leaders in history playing stupid and shouldering blame on everyone around them."

Gee... you sound just like Ronald Reagan.

In the United States, you are free to write a letter (at least so far, the freedom of speech hasn't been repealed yet) to any politician to voice any opinion you might have. This editorial is simply a bait and switch to another topic to try a diffuse the potential reader's opinion that the scandals of Washington are not real, but simply a political witch hunt. The desperation seen in DNC propaganda these days make it abundantly clear, the democrats are sweating.

I have faith in America, and that the truth will see the light of day, and that anyone responsible for betraying the sanctity of their service to the country will be held responsible.

If Obama is genuinely ignorant of all that has happened this past week, then he would be responsible for "scandalizing" himself. A leader surrounds themselves with competent team players, makes the hard decisions, and takes responsibility for them. I don't recall any great leaders in history playing stupid and shouldering blame on everyone around them.

Although, perhaps, our friend John has not expressed himself in an acceptable manner, he does have a point. And you think DEMOCRATS don't do the same thing? Hmm.. what about Rahm "never let a crisis go to waste" Emmanuel? And what about the crook Axelrod? IF the Heritage Foundation is saying this, and truthfully, I suspect your source (the grio? Please..), then show it to us all. And exactly what "code words" are being used?

Here now, if I say the president hasn't done his job, and has been lazy or "dragging his feet" about some issue (eg Keystone), does that automatically mean I'm being racist against black people? Hardly. We are talking about one man. Oh, and isn't Obama a white also?? His mom and grandparents sure were. You can't have it both ways, folks. He isn't just black when it's convenient to play the worn out race card. And eventually the American people, all of the American people, are going to grow tired of hearing this. I think they largely have already.

It seems to me elected politicians who engage in such activity are stealing from the electorate who voted for them to govern.
They further damage the country.

Since it's not possible to get any legislation passed that we conservatives would agree with, given that democrats control the Senate and White House, it makes perfect sense from a strategy point of view to focus on the scandals that Obama has so graciously provided for us.

This strategy will be all the more effective because the MSM never did vet Obama in the first place, so suddenly seeing all this stuff come out that tarnishes "the One" will have a far greater impact on the public (except die hard liberals of course) than it would if it came out about a normal President who had been properly vetted in the first place. On top of that there is also the fact that Obama has never in his life been subjected to this kind of scrutiny, and has no experience in dealing with situations in which people are not pulling their punches because of his race when they go after him. It's far more likely with him, than with a normal President, that he will say or do something in a fit of anger that will show just who he really is (i.e. an off teleprompter moment), and which we conservatives will be happy to see, because he's completely inexperienced at dealing with situations in which his opponents are coming at him with everything they've got. All his political opponents to date, including Hillary, McCain, and Romney to one extent or another pulled their punches. It will be really interesting to see how he reacts when he takes one from his opponents delivered at full power right in the chin (metaphorically speaking of course), and with the MSM not acting as his shield.

Business as usual on capital hill. If this letter is true, did they really need to send a letter to tell the to do what their actually doing?
