The Purge

There's an interesting political survey of sneak preview viewers.

>>I can't help, but remember what people said when 1984 came out, naa, those king of things will never happen.<<

Never thought we would have a defender of socialism and radical Islamists as president.

Plastic...extreme right or left are identical in how they would rule.

The topic title can go the other way as well. Both sides, left and right, came out of the screening saying that the movie's scenario could be the result of the "other side's" unbridled policies.

I think that's a great illustration of our political climate. It further feeds into the idea that there is no left or right; that it's all an illusion perpetrated on us so that we're distracted from their master plan.

I can't help, but remember what people said when 1984 came out, naa, those king of things will never happen. But, look where we are today, cameras on every corner, and in nearly every store, The government, intruding into our private life more, and more, wanting to know what is said on facebook, twitter, and e mails, and being forced to buy something, want it or not. remember obama care? We aren't at the extremes that the movie had in it, but it seems we are headed in that direction. The scarey thing is, there are a lot of people, that don't seem to be bothered by big brother intruding into our private lives.

I'm sorry, I just can't let a good social science experiment go to waste. I'm not trying to play "gotcha" with anyone. A political social experiment was done on this movie and it had a pretty telling outcome. It's really not a slam against the left or the right, it's more of a "kudos" to the writers and directors for a job well done on the political angle.

This movie is from the same director as Paranormal Activity. They also brought Michael Bay on board to direct. It's a horror flick but the setup of the story is what is of interest here. The US went bankrupt and into default and was bailed out by a big corporation. The corp. now runs the country. The movie is more about the horror and gore with a nod to a dilema facing a family.

I made this topic because the producers did a screening of the movie to conservatives and to liberals. Guess which side came out of the theater saying that their beliefs were affirmed by this fantasy idea.

Well, I'm glad I wasted two minutes and twenty-nine seconds instead of 2 hours and 29 minutes on that fiasco.

I love conceptual "this could be our future" movies -- but dang, too creepy

Appears to have a Hunger Games feel to it.

“Why do we waste our time letting there be one winner every year? Why don’t we just round up 24 kids and slaughter them as a way to keep people in line?...”

“...Because letting one of them live gives these people hope. The only thing more powerful than fear is hope. Not too much hope; that could lead to an overthrow of our power. But just enough hope to make them think that things could be better.”

A line inserted into that movie to associate current political trends -- "what may happen in the future if we continue to let our leaders do whatever they want"
