US hospitals send hundreds of immigrants back home

Days after they were badly hurt in a car accident, Jacinto Cruz and Jose Rodriguez-Saldana lay unconscious in an Iowa hospital while the American health care system weighed what to do with the two immigrants from Mexico.

The men had health insurance from jobs at one of the nation's largest pork producers. But neither had legal permission to live in the U.S., nor was it clear whether their insurance would pay for the long-term rehabilitation they needed.

So Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines took matters into its own hands: After consulting with the patients' families, it quietly loaded the two comatose men onto a private jet that flew them back to Mexico, effectively deporting them without consulting any court or federal agency.

"The story also fails to mention what if anything is being done to the pork producer that had hired the illegal aliens."

Perhaps the story fails to mention what's being done to the pork producer because nothing's being done in that regard.

You did read the part where it says the men had health insurance, right?

<<Just wondering what the reaction might have been if the hospital had been Canadian, and a couple of Americans illegally in Canada, maybe military deserters, or drug runners, had been shipped back to the US comatose?>>

Oh, rumbleseat, don't you know they wouldn't receive hospital care in Canada because the waiting times are so long? They would be blessed to be sent back to the U.S. where they could receive health care promptly. /sarc off.

>"..effectively deporting them.."

That part is opinion injected into the story. Bias alert! (Just in case you didn't see it, Marty.)

The lead for this story should have been

“US hospitals send hundreds of illegal alien back home”

The story also fails to mention what if anything is being done to the pork producer that had hired the illegal aliens.

If someone is in this country in violation of the law SEND THEM HOME!

If someone is hiring workers who are in this country in violation of the law SHUT THEM DOWN AND IMPRISON THE PEOPLE WHO ARE RESPOSIBLE!!!

Gee --- sending them back home to the families sounds like a pretty kind and compassionate thing to do.

Too bad we can't just bill Mexico for medical services rendered. Of course, if it were our government doing the billing, the bills would have to be at Medicare/Medicaid rates.
