[L=http://tinyurl.com/bq9863g]Bad year for Michelle[/L

"It all started in January, roughly a week before the person she hoped to run against, President Barack Obama, would be sworn into office for a second term. One of Bachmann's top advisors, Peter Waldron, Bachmann’s former national field coordinator during her presidential campaign, filed a complaint of alleged campaign finance violations to the Federal Election Commission. He accused the campaign of taking money from MichelePAC, the superPAC formed to assist Bachmann's presidential run, to pay campaign employee Guy Short. That constitutes a violation of campaign finance laws which prevent PACs from contributing to campaigns. He also alleged that the campaign made concealed payments to Iowa State Chairman and State Senator Kent Sorenson. Iowa senate rules state that Sorenson cannot perform paid work for a presidential campaign.

Things only got worse as the year went by. News broke that the Office of Congressional Ethics was investigating the charges in March. The OCE is an organization formed to investigate ethics violation and forward them to the House Ethics Committee if it sees smoke. The agency was created to take tips and allegation from sources that are not members of Congress, a significant loophole in the HEC's rulebook. In additional Waldron allegations, a former Iowa staff member levied an additional claim that the Bachmann campaign stole a database of names and e-mails of Christian home-schooled families in Iowa. The complaint is the center of a lawsuit against the Bachmann campaign. The lawsuit is backed by a sworn affidavit from a former Bachmann staffer, Eric Woolson."

"She has already announced she will not run again for re-election. How about letting her fade away into obscurity?"

Because she'll be back like a bad penny. Witness Sarah Palin.

"The investigation of Michele Bachmann has been forwarded to the House Ethics Committee."

I wouldn't expect a TEA Party-driven HOR to do anything severe to one of its own. But, it should be interesting to see what ultimately happens here.

It would be more appropriate for Bachmann to squeal.

Bachmann's future will ultimately be decided by her voting district.

Nose, "nothing but allegations" sure worked for cons on Trayvon Martin eg. "the Skittles topic". But when the spotlight is on one of your own that is quite different. No doubt ethics violations will not be seen as a "Scandal" though.

175, "Bachmann's detractors can squeal with delight" and cons are offering up nothing but excuses for a lame politician on this topic. Cons have no shame only hypocrisy when it comes to one of their own.

I wonder if Fox will offer air up to the minute coverage on this "Scandal, Lol.

There is a debate going on in Minnesota. Should she get her congressional pension? In 8 years she did not author a single piece of legislation that actually became law...

Bachmann's opponent Jim Graves has dropped out. He said he was only in the race to oust Bachmann. But in reality he knows this conservative district will now surely elect a Republican since the nut job dropped out. Repubs must be very glad Michelle dropped out.

Perhaps not in the nation at large, but I expect she does among her ardent followers -- whom she apparently represents well.

I hope her announcement to not stand for re-election will not result in a premature termination of the FBI probe into her past activity. She does deserve to have her good name cleared if she hasn't done anything illegal.

Although the tea party has lost a "darling", her bowing out clears the way for a stronger likelihood of Republicans holding her seat. That combined with the numerous Democrats dropping out could make the next two elections REALLY interesting.

"Minnesota has woken up"

Yeah, the "Jesse Ventura State" later elects a SNL side-act comedian with no real work history to represent their State in Washington.

Sounds to me like Minnesota is comatose

It seems like every time Rep. Michelle opened her mouth something stupid was about to come out. Here are some examples of her stupidity.

Here are 7,

Ten more

You have to wonder who elects these people.

She isn't running because 1. all the ongoing investigations 2. she finally realized even the people in her 6th district can only be fooled for so long 3. her likely opponent almost beat her last time and most likely would in 2014. 4. she hopes to make more money blithering away-perhaps FOX?

If she ran against Franken she would be lucky to get 20% of the vote. Minnesota has woken up.

Maybe she'll be the first Tea Party presidential candidate or run for Senator in 2014 against Franken. THAT would be fun.

Well I admire her for not running again saying a president can only serve two terms or a total of ten years so why shouldn't a congressperson or senator be given the same limits. She is self imposing these limits on herself. I have thought term limits for both the House and Senate should have been set decades ago to not allow someone in either house to occupy that seat for as many as thirty or more years. New blood and new ideas is a good thing every six to ten years.

I don't care for her personally -- does she have any accomplishments? I think she knows she can't win and there is more money to made on speaking tours. That's why Palin did it.

Reminds me of Debbie Stabenow here in Michigan. Career campaigner, accomplishments = zero (cash for clunkers was not an accomplishment, but a taxpayer funded give-away). What does Debbie Wasserman-shoutz accomplish? ZERO!

The mainstream made for television "spokes-idiot" Republicans need to be flushed, they are mostly worthless.

She's not running for re-election.

She's not resigning.

She's not admitting to any wrongdoing in any of her political campaigns.

She does seem to have the same traits as many in the Obama Administration.

Final answer: Not running for reelection

"“And rest assured, this decision was not impacted in any way by the recent inquiries into the activities of my former presidential campaign or my former presidential staff. It was clearly understood that compliance with all rules and regulations was an absolute necessity for my presidential campaign. And I have no reason to believe that that was not the case."

I'm saying BOTH parties will try to hold onto the seat of a "damaged" comrade when its politically expedient for them to do so.

Ensign stayed on for two years fighting ethics charges, even though it was known that he committed adultery and paid his staffer's husband $96,000 to keep the story quiet. The RNCSC didn't move to oust Ensign and let him continue to "work". So much for self-righteous RNC "ousting"...

The only time that the DNC ever holds one of its own back is when they make a failed bid at the presidency. The DNC has never recycled a losing candidate.
