It feels like a slow day today so lets spice things up with a topic of a different nature.

Would superman be a democrat or republican?Clark Kent who was raised on a farm in rural Kansas, is dedicated to spreading truth and justice not only in the US but spreading the message of freedom across the world. A man who has been seen working closely with a ronnie reagan look alike in the Dark Knight returns graphic novels, all very republican ideals.

At the same time he works for the Daily Planet, part of the mainstream media. He has the tendency to focus on human interest stories with a special focus on the homeless and downtrodden. He is also technically an illegal alien. All favoring democrat ideals.

So make you argument is Superman/Clark Kent a conservative or a Liberal? Make you arguments and state your case!

SAVE THE WATCHES!!!!

"While I doubt Superman would align himself with any political party, his deeds would be more popular with Democrats than Republicans OR Libertarians. Righties would see those getting Superman's help as "dependent" upon Superman (while they are all, of course, completely self-reliant), their jingoism would have them insist that Superman help Americans before helping anyone else, and they would be appalled that Superman would help others just for the betterment of society and not for profit or oil."

Just like his father, Jor-El, was called a KINO (Kryptonian In Name Only) when he insisted that his planet was doomed, Superman would be referred to as Kal-Hussein-El, Superbozo, the idiot in the cape, etc.

Leftist Myths About Superman as of 3/25/13:

"Superman has been fighting against corporate America since day one, I think he is a Liberal..."
-He's fighting for truth and justice, law abiding corporations and individuals need not fear him.

"Lets not forget about superman's exceptionally strong anti-nuke stance. He has been known to on one or more occasion to advocate and even assist with complete nuclear disarmament of not only the USA but the world. A very liberal position."
-The anti-nuke position is multi-party. There are those on the right who do not want nuclear.

"He also helps women, children, and the weak and helpless escape the jaws of danger. Liberal for sure."
-You have got to be kidding!

"Superman specialized in saving the average Joe and the downtrodden not corporations so clearly he is a Democrat."
-He seeks truth and Justice. If the average Joe is a criminal, Kent will expose him. If a corporation is law abiding, there is no need for Kent to seek exposing the business.

Neither.

Clark Kent IS a LIBERTARIAN as he seeks truth, justice, equality, and freedom for all. He focuses on doing what is right rather than what is expedient. He also expects the citizenry to act responsibly and tries to act as a role model. His deep rooted characteristic of searching for these and other altruistic characteristics forbid him to cower to political pressure in his job as a newspaper reporter reporter.

The last sentence eliminates him from being considered either Democrat or Republican.

<<"Back then they had more journalistic integrity. They also had spell checkers (people, I mean) and fact checkers. Newspapers have been SORELY lacking these for awhile."

Great Caesar's ghost! You do realize we're talking about a fictional mild-mannered reporter who works for a fictional large-metropolitan newspaper, I hope. >>

Also, if you think about it, Peter Parker's editor told him regular to lie and cheat to try to make Spiderman look bad, so I am guessing even back then there was no such thing as journalistic integrity.

I agree wholeheartedly. However, I wouldn't limit that statement to just the newspapers today. I often spot obvious spelling or punctuation errors in various forms of media. It's enough to make a person laugh -- or cry. Today's emphasis often appears to be on speed of delivery at the expense of quality. Apparently there's often time to do things over, but seldom enough time to do them properly the first time.

You know for awhile in the comics he was married to Lois Lane. However, they changed it back, since it was too hard for the writers to write around it. It would also bring up some interesting physiological questions..

I think newspapers back in Superman's time were a bit more right leaning, or perhaps more centrist than they are now. I mean, really. Back then they had more journalistic integrity. They also had spell checkers (people, I mean) and fact checkers. Newspapers have been SORELY lacking these for awhile. Also, remember that Clark Kent grew up in the country. Weren't his Earth parents farmers? I'd say he was centrist, or right leaning. But I wouldn't say he's a far rightie by any stretch.

As Clark Kent, he is working for the liberal mainstream media.

As Both Superman and Clark Kent, he opens himself up to committing voter fraud for having two identities.

Clark would definitely be a conservative Republican, for he clearly is a doer. As many Right Wing pundits have informed us, only Republicans are doers while only takers are Democrats.

They report, you decide.

And about Bruce Wayne aka batman, no doubt he votes republican. That I would have to agree with you on.

Superman has been fighting against corporate America since day one, I think he is a Liberal and Batman a Conservative which is why they cannot work well together and only do so when they have no choice, they both prefer to go their own way, watch Batman Superman Public Enemies. Plus Supermans real name is Kal-El, with a name like that Rep. King would be dragging him before a committee to discover his real intent in America and Bachman would be calling him a threat and a terrorist spy.

Well, now, wait a minute. He was adopted as a baby by the Kent family. And since his homeland no longer exists, could he not claim asylum?

I would say that Superman would be certainly right leaning. After all, he didn't ask the motivations of the crooks he was seeking. He'd just basically round them up and haul them off to jail, no questions asked.

Though off-topic, I'd say the same about Batman. You know in the comic books, he's "Batman - The Dark Avenger". Batman would often dispatch particularly bad criminals himself - vigilante style. I would rate Batman as a far rightie.

Good answer NE Guy. He's obviously here to steal work from our law-abiding citizen superheroes so let's round him up and stick him in a jail made of Kryptonite bars. Can't deport him; Krypton blew up. The conservative Kryptonians didn't take care of their planet and wouldn't believe their own scientists.

Since Superman fights for TRUTH,JUSTICE,and THE AMERICAN WAY he would have to be a libertarian. Most republicans and democrats in power don't seem to grasp those concepts anymore.

I suspect he might not be happy about having to buy health insurance (especially since he would have to pay twice in order to cover both himself and Clark without blowing his secret identity), unless he could find a policy that explicitly covers kryptonite poisoning; so that would make him less likely to be a democrat. :)
