"I'm a big football fan, but I have to tell you if I had a son, I'd have to think long and hard before I let him play football,"
said Obama to the press. Unlike smoking pot all thru high school and college, which apparently doesn't do as much damage to the brain?

"the thread should be ignored and be allowed to die an ignominious death"

Plenty of decent topics in this category die off as folks quickly migrate to the latest theme promoted by the extreme media. So, at times it may be useful to keep some active to poke fun at. Lies ignored often tend to be accepted as the truth by low information deciders. So, as some religious groups are wont to do, actively renounce Satan in his many forms.

"I'm a big football fan, but I have to tell you if I had a son, I'd have to think long and hard before I let him play football,"
is not the same as
"Obama wouldn't let his son play football"

Since the heading applied to the thread is a lie, and proved a lie by the very name applied to the link, the thread should be ignored and be allowed to die an ignominious death.

I agree completely. I know one fellow's father who used to say "Let the other kids do sports and get all crippled up." Let them get all of the glory and then later commit suicide and donate their brains for medical research. Different strokes for different folks.

Jd, "it's all Bush's fault anyhow". So does that mean the Bush free pass given by cons has expired? "Deaths in Afghanistan", of course does not include bin laden because Obama was willing to do what ever it took to get the #1 terrorist in the world.

Ac-, "just war" and how is the hunt for wmd coming along since the Iraq invasion? Nation building projects could be seen as "just" until the bill has to be paid. Iran certainly appreciates their new found friend Iraq, delivered to them by the American armed forces.

Going back to the topic. The danger of playing tag is a decision parents make regularly along with whether a child can keep a loaded weapon in their room. It's all about using common sense which is why many parents have second thoughts about football. Your child, your decision and your consequences.

"I strongly disagree with you. That was a JUST war. A whole bunch of countries' intel said Saddam had WMD, and he did. He moved it to Syria (confirmed by his 3 Star Gen. Georges Sada, Chief of the Iraqi Air Force). Who killed them? Hmmm?? How about Iraqi provacateurs fueled by Iranian petrodollars and their desire to export terrorism in the name of Shia Islam and punishing the US and Israel?"

No one doubted that Saddam had chemical weapons, as the whole world knows he used them on the Kurds as well as the Iranians. However, one of the most repeated talking points before the war was the rush of Iraq to develop a nuclear bomb as if it was right around the corner:

""There simply isn't a case that this is a peace-loving man who wants to be left alone," national security adviser Condoleezza Rice said on CNN's "Late Edition With Wolf Blitzer."

On NBC's "Meet the Press," Vice President Dick Cheney accused Saddam of moving aggressively to develop nuclear weapons over the past 14 months to add to his stockpile of chemical and biological arms.

"Increasingly, we believe that the United States may well become the target of those activities," Cheney said.

"And what we've seen recently that has raised our level of concern to the current state of unrest ... is that he now is trying, through his illicit procurement network, to acquire the equipment he needs to be able to enrich uranium -- specifically, aluminum tubes," Cheney said, referring to one of the elements for making nuclear weapons.

Citing Bush administration officials, The New York Times reported Sunday that Iraq tried to buy thousands of high-strength aluminum tubes.

The tubes, Rice said, "are only really suited for nuclear weapons programs, centrifuge programs."

Centrifuges are one way to separate weapons-grade uranium from natural uranium.

White House sources also tell CNN that Saddam has in recent months met several times with Iraq's top nuclear scientists and encouraged them to continue their work.

Sources say Iraqi defectors who used to work for Iraq's nuclear weapons "industry" tell administration officials Iraq's top priority is acquiring nuclear arms.

Rice acknowledged that "there will always be some uncertainty" in determining how close Iraq may be to obtaining a nuclear weapon but said, "We don't want the smoking gun to be a mushroom cloud."

A senior administration official involved in Iraq policy tells CNN classified briefings to congressional leaders in recent days included evidence of "procurement issues" relating to Iraq's nuclear programs, including the aluminum tubes."

when in fact the evidence known at the time did NOT support those statements.

<<Exactly my point! How many feel good ideas are based on stupid stuff just like that?>>

My point is that you took a man's reasonable (if theoretical) concern about his son playing football, and followed it down the slippery slope to ridiculous fears over normal activity. There are stopping points along any slope, so one need not complain about things at the bottom of them.

The deaths in Benghazi were preventable, and the ambassador had requested security that he didn't get. Obama and Clinton are both responsible for that which they could have prevented in this case, and you know it.

What I know is this:

"you know, if the right spent as much time moaning and whining about the 4,500+ deaths in Iraq (i.e., who's responsible for those deaths? Why did we invade that country with no WMDs? We can't let this happen again, etc.) as they do about 4 deaths in Benghazi, we would have been out of Iraq years ago..."

That has nothing to do with being righteous, but simply the truth.

The fat kids are always out first and I wouldn't want them to feel bad. Baseball...bad also. To be a good baseball player you only need to be successful hitting about 30% of the time and that is bad for your psyche. Also, somebody may get hit with a ball and get a bruise on their arm or leg...or worse...get hit in the eye!>>

You know, something is wrong when people heckle a man who just lost a child, his ONLY son, shouting "the 2nd amendment"

I could go on and on, but since some people here will hate whatever Obama does, even if its the same thing they praised a republican for doing, its an exercise in futility...and who has time for that?

I can’t say I blame Obama for his concerns. My wife and I had long debate about whether to let our son play football or not. In the end we did let him.

The way I look at it is there is risk in everything we do. I spent eight years in the army, was airborne, worked in army aviation, went to Iraq in 91, ride motor cycles, scuba dive and used to do some rock climbing.

The only serious injury I ever had was when I was working at a carwash for the summer after I got out of the army. I was pinned between two cars and almost lost my leg.

My point is you can try as hard as you want to reduce your risk of injury but it can still happen and you would have led a boring life for nothing.

One of my favorite quotes sums it up.

“Life should not be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in a pretty and well preserved body, but rather to skid in broadside in a cloud of smoke, thoroughly used up, totally worn out, and loudly proclaiming "Wow! What a Ride!”

Norm to answer your question, he is Obama. Everything he does is wrong. What would you expect from those who says he wears mom jeans and who could never have a child to grow up like a man? If that had been said about rightwing kids by a liberal, that right would be howling like a dying wolf.

Given the number of TBIs now being proven as the results of the "game", I would tend to agree with Obama.

If science comes up with a way to prevent head injuries, then let the kids play. But a few hours of fun is not worth a life of diminished capacity. This is not the same as a skinned knee, or even a broken arm. Those heal.

Of course, there will always be the demented few that will tell you "Anyone can study science and stuff. It takes a real MAN to face TBIs"

Too bad they pass this idiocy on to their poor kids.

I'd prefer it if my son/grandson took up knitting. Much safer. But if he had a desire for that adrenaline rush, I'd encourage him to take up tiddly-winks as a competitive sport. Its cut throat the way they play it today.

After Obama gets done banning guns he can ban football.

But what about all the skateboarders? Whizzing through downtown traffic at 35mph with nothing more than a bandanna and a pair of Sketchers for protection? He better get busy and ban skateboards.

For that matter he better ban snowboards too. Zipping down the mountain at 40 mph with all those trees around! You could easily get killed if you hit one.

Baseball may produce more serious injuries than football, that is not where the problem lies. It is the traumatic brain injuries. How many suicides have been reported because a pitcher needed "Tommy John" surgery? A basketball player with a torn acl? This is a serious problem that needs to be addressed. A topic such as this thinly disguised as another bash Obama thread is not the place .

Baseball produces far more serious injuries than football, and let's not even mention boxing/MMA.

Another idiotic stance by Obama. Does he think high school football is played like pro ball? Do high schoolers weigh as much? Do they hit anywhere near as hard? Are they accurate in their moves? Do they put anywhere near the time/effort in practice that the pros do perfecting their skills? Can being hit by a 150 pound sophmore be anything like being taken down by a 300 pounder?

Yes, and he knows how to write in English. I can see why you wouldn't appreciate that.

"forget war crimes since he is only killing people in the Middle East."

Of course, that doesn't count, since he's not a "hard working hard hat kind of guys that walked like a man, sounded like a man, and have manly muscles" who would actually do the killings himself, don't you see?
