So they are opening a new Jeep factory in China. That is not unusual. All manufactureres are opening plants in the country they are selling to. It accomplishes a number of things. It is easier to ship across a country rather than an oacross an ocean. A work stoppage in one country may not affect another country.
As I said, all manufacturers are going to this, if they haven't already. We have factories here making cars from Japan, Korea, Europe and Mexico. As long as they only well those vehicles in that country, or nearby country I wouldn't have a problem with it. Just don't ship those vehicles made there back here.

nst, do you really think Chrysler can build Jeeps in the US for the Asian market, and actually afford to sell them in China after paying to ship them there? They are expanding production in the US for the North American market, they are expanding production in China for the Asian market. They are NOT sending American production jobs to China! Darned right that is okay! It is more than okay! It would be stupid to do otherwise. Are we still coming across people believing one of the "facts" that Romney was caught out on?

rumbleseat, "Chrysler is NOT building a new facility. They are working on an agreement to build Jeeps at a plant owned by Guangzhou Automobile Group."
Oh, ok, so as long as it is not a brand new facility it is ok?

"google it for a link, plenty of links" Yep, and except for a couple of stupid inflammatory links, like Mitt Romney's gaffe, you will find this has nothing to do with moving jobs to China. In other words, there is no story, other that Chrysler EXPANDING business world-wide, here.

Chrysler is NOT building a new facility. They are working on an agreement to build Jeeps at a plant owned by Guangzhou Automobile Group. They are already building the Fiat Viaggio in China.
In case you hadn't noticed, the auto business is global. This doesn't affect the US, where Chrysler continues to EXPAND. In October Chrysler added a third crew of 1,100 workers at its Jefferson North Assembly Plant in Detroit to boost production of the Jeep Grand Cherokee and Dodge Durango. Chrysler also is adding 1,105 workers at its plant in Toledo, Ohio, to build the replacement for the Jeep Liberty.
