"Coming out and saying something like "It was the title of the thread that violated policy" will in return get cries and hollers about other examples by similar posters that didnt get locked."

Hmm, so much for that argument. :)

The topic was locked because the title was inflammatory and falls under the first item of Five things that will get a topic closed.

@misswiggy ---- "Maybe it would be easier for the mods to explain it. We can guess forever."

they wont.

When dealing with forum moderation policies it is much better to let a poster whine and complain than it is to engage them. Coming out and saying something like "It was the title of the thread that violated policy" will in return get cries and hollers about other examples by similar posters that didnt get locked. If the mod posted about that it would be too easy to respond again and it would only serve to inflame what would have otherwise died down on its own.

One universal truth about internet posters. They are whiny self entitled brats. And thats not a democrat/republican kind of thing.

"How is it that norm was able to use the word cr-p through out the threads here and there, but yet the same curse word as some are saying here, can't be said in the head title?"

Because for one, crap is NOT a curse word.

"Why is norm able to slide, but not this poster? I don't get it."

I didn't slide. Fly tried to have me banned for using the word crap. I showed the mods that crap is used during the family hour on TV, in print media and even by people like Sarah Palin. Then the mods agreed its NOT a curse word.

"No offense norm, but that is your favorite word, right?"

Obviously you don't know me very well.

"Some find it offensive and I guess others don't."

No, some try to impose their archaic beliefs on everyone else.

"It seems to be it depends as to who is saying the word cr_p as to whether or not their bacon is safe. It just doesn't seem quite fair."

Actually, it was shown time and time again, that Fly was not "offended" all the time when Crap was used. He would ignore people using it right in front of him and only complain about me. So yes, it DOES depend on who is saying it in regards to who is actually offended by it. That wasn't an issue of fairness, but rather one of discrimination.

"The only reason a person would continue using any word that is offensive to another is to get their goat purposely. "

Kinda like mentioning that someone is supposed to be a pastor over and over and over?

well, my intent was not to start a tit for tat conflict of left against right, I seriously wanted to know why. If it was locked because of the word democrap, why that alone? Heck, dems use words to put down repubs too. Perhaps someone complained about that word to a mod and that's why, I merely wanted to know, because the article in the Florida newspaper had some actual news that needs to be considered by "all" taxpayers, regardless if you're a dem or a repub. Again, I'll copy and past the article from the newspaper as it show up on the paper's web site:

-Monday, January 7, 2013
Democrats look for up to $1 trillion in new tax revenues this year
The White House also supports a 1:1 ratio of spending cuts to tax increasesDemocrats say they want to raise as much as $1 trillion in new revenues through tax reform later this year to balance Republican demands to slash mandatory spending.

Democratic leaders have had little time to craft a new position for their party since passing a tax deal Tuesday that will raise $620 billion in revenue over the next ten years.

The emerging consensus, however, is that the next installment of deficit reduction should reach $2 trillion and about half of it should come from higher taxes.--

OK, so whats so wrong about this link? It's news that we all need to be concerned about.

Unfortunately I didn't see or hear this survey about the word that we are talking about. I feel it's not just the one word. It's the personality and the reason why certain people wish to continue using these types of words, knowing that they are offensive.

It's pretty sad state of affairs that there has to be such an extensive conversation of what words are acceptable and not acceptable.

"I, along with a few other people, said that I would avoid using it because I like using this forum for debate, and not just to irritate others"

This is the way I feel also.

"it seems to me just the word cr-p is upsetting to some, but yet the word is continuing to be used."

You probably missed the giant to-do here on U.S. Politics a while ago when sluggopyle started a thread devoted to polling people about whether the word crap was inappropriate for gas buddy--since there had been only one person complaining to the mods about its use and reproving other members constantly.

I, along with a few other people, said that I would avoid using it because I like using this forum for debate, and not just to irritate others, but a larger part of the survey's respondents said the word just wasn't bad.

There were only about 2 people who said outright that the word was actually inappropriate, in addition to flyboy.

I still don't use the word in general on here--although when discussing the use of the word its a little silly to avoid it completely.

Topic: Is it time for Christians to leave the Democrat Party???

Here mexico maria says, "norm.......the word "crap" doesn't seem like it should be in the same post with a post suggesting "what would Jesus do".

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Norm's reply was, "Neither should be outright lying about what I've posted...but you and so many others will let that slide, of course.
No surprise there."
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

The point mexicomaria was bringing up was, those types of words are unbecoming. We have all been on this thread for quite a long time, and even if we don't agree with each other, it would be nice if offensive words were not used, especially after it's addressed.

We should all know what words we can and cannot use.

The only reason a person would continue using any word that is offensive to another is to get their goat purposely.

Well if you notice on this thread here, sgm4law, when I asked Cliffisher what the curse word he was referring to, he said, cr-p, so it seems to me just the word cr-p is upsetting to some, but yet the word is continuing to be used.

I had asked, What nasty four letter word are you referring to Cliffisher?

Cliffisher's answer was,

"C
Rap"

I do understand where you are coming from though, sgm4law, when the word Demo is thrown into the mix, but it's not like we haven't seen the same action from the other side also.

"Topic: DEMOCRAPS WANT TAX INCREASES??? SHOCKING....Hmmm...Hmmm...Hmmm..."

Maybe if the title was cr-p! TAXES ARE INCREASING, SHOCKING..
The title would have been more acceptable. What do you think sgm4law?

It is interesting how some words are forbidden and some aren't. For instance another gasbuddy was banned for the word, -itch. I'm sure if he wanted to get off from not being banned, all he had to do, is quote Webster, the female of the dog.

If one can get away with cr-p, why not -itch?

Just wondering why some gasbuddies are so selective.

I would like to see gasbuddies having enough decency not even to use the word so we don't have to even have this conversation.

This has nothing to do with using the word crap. There is nothing wrong with using the word crap. As I posted earlier, read the GB "civilized discussion 3.0" topic. That should explain it. Then look at the title of the locked thread.

This site is not owned by us. GB let's us use this site and the forums free. They can do as they choose. If anyone has an issue with that, look elsewhere. Those with sensitive eyes will find this site tame compared to others out there.

btw, why was Norm dragged into this? He posted once in this topic. Someone here following him and monitoring his language? Grow up.

For the same reason if I started a thread talking about Republicraps--which I would not do--it would also be locked. Do you not understand the difference between the use of a word in general and the use of word as part of the name of a group?

Yea, that's kind of how I've been feeling lately too, AFSNCO.

Sounds like it could be a great subject matter talking about tax hicks.

Some people are beginning surprised that they are finding out that their social security deduction from their pay check has gone up quite a bit, even knowing that they make way under the $250,000.00 limit that obama keeps talking about. It was reported that some people are paying $200 a month more even though they are only making $40,000.00 a year. I guess another thing you can't trust obama on.

It sure is hard not to notice more money being stolen out of your hard worked earnings and not wonder what happened to that promise!

BTC...you had me cracking up. It was nicely worded and gets funnier the more you read it.

sis...I had not looked at it from that point of view. I guess the word is only offensive when thrown in a leftward direction.

Glad you got my point, AF! I know you think it is me that is me whom is more at fault, but, can you not see that it was RAB2010 was so far off, with which to begin?

I mean he was provoking conspiracy theories and was too far right to have a decent discussion, at the very least. Or at least, that was his example of how it would develop.

RAB2010, you make a good point about the establishment of us v them in that thread and the possible conflict you are trying to establish here. Thanks for being so poignant about your thoughts....

You just hit the nail on the head for the reason the mods locked that topic by an example of where that topic could have gone...

It would have been a very strong us v them topic, no matter what. First amendment rights as far as free speech are concerning oppressive GOVERNMENT intervention of Free Speech, or so I have been told here many times. The owners of this site have the right to allow or disallow what they want, without discussion from us. I had a topic on Freedom of Speech locked here a few years ago.

So be it.

It was likely removed because liberals and socialists that frequent this site do not like criticism. They also take offense to any reference to historical figures to illustrate a point (such as Adolf Hit---). The forums are censored to favor liberal and socialist perspectives. As with the rest of the left-media, they have an insatiable appetite to control those who disagree with them. Some might argue that this is the very nexus of the gun control argument, and it would seem this argument holds great sway with those of rational thought. In short, your First Amendment rights are not protected here. Neither are any other rights you may think you have.

ok, I guess + granted, some titles are exagerated (a lot), not much different than what most of the MSM does for their headline attention grabbing efforts. Perhaps had the initiator used the word Democrat or left it out intirely? Oh well, perhaps it would have been or meant more to simply post the entire short news item of:"Democrats say they want to raise as much as $1 trillion in new revenues through tax reform later this year to balance Republican demands to slash mandatory spending.

Democratic leaders have had little time to craft a new position for their party since passing a tax deal Tuesday that will raise $620 billion in revenue over the next ten years.

The emerging consensus, however, is that the next installment of deficit reduction should reach $2 trillion and about half of it should come from higher taxes."

Perhaps not.

There is a thread about a sheriff standing up fopr citizens, and some debate in that thread of - should the gun dealer/store owner lose his license if he chooses to not sell to certain people.

Well - - - is it any different here at gas buddy. GB owns this forum and they alone have the right to say which threads can be talked about or deleted, etc.

I merely wondered if anyone knew why the topic was locked.

I'm off in 30 minutes to get to the house/habitat for humanity. Mudding the drywall today and one of my least favorite construction things to do. Apparently everyopne elses least favorite thing also, as maybe only one other person agreed to help mud today.
