sgm4law - "Interesting. Are you pleased with this purported state of affairs, or do you think it's wrong?"
No, I am not pleased with this state of affairs, I do think it is wrong, and I would like to see it corrected. The Obama administration has taken a lot from the poor and what they propose threatens to take a lot more.
Part of the problem is that the poor need to live on their incomes which they have little control over. But the rich can live without an income because of their assets and they can control how much income they get versus how quickly their assets grow. So raise the taxes on the rich and they rearrange things so they pay less. Obama shows from his spending that he is greedy for power and money at the expense of the poor while he says he is trying to do everything to help them.
What will help the poor most of all is jobs from a robust and growing economy. Why do he want control of the Debt Limit and more Deficit Spending when just the opposite is what is needed?

John McCain, in 2008, tried to tell us that the jobs we once depended on are gone. They are NOT coming back. No one wanted to hear that back then. Apparently, a lot of people are still deluding themselves.
That fantasy world of the past is gone. And it not going to come back.
America was once the major job creator in the world. We built the best TVs, the best washers and driers, the best mass produced cars, we had the best phone system, the best airlines, the best military and the best space program. Our universities were the best, our medical care was the best.
And a lot of that was because we had NO COMPETITION. The rest of the world had been destroyed by WWII. America was the only place with an intact infrastructure. You know, that stuff Obama talks about that some businessman didn't build?
If you are my age (66) it was built by your parents and grandparents. But since America had it so easy after the war, we became complacent. Lazy even.
We didn't want to pay taxes to maintain and improve that infrastructure.
We didn't want to pay to keep our schools number one.
We didn't want to put in long hours to keep our technology ahead.
But we did want the state to pick up all sorts of social programs, like the rest of the world was doing. We, of course, didn't want to pay for it all.
We wanted bigger and bigger paychecks, without a corresponding increase in labors.
Meanwhile, the rest of the world was rebuilding. And doing it better than us. You would have thought that when they all caught up, that we would get on the ball, and get going again.
But we just kept on building those TVs, those aircraft, those washers and driers. All the stuff that made us great FIFTY YEARS AGO. So now, all that stuff can be built by less educated, lower skilled people. And all the stuff pertinent to today's world is being built by other countries that DID keep up.
So when the crash came, we had nothing in house to rebuild with. But some people still cannot see that. They linger in the past, wishing for the "good old days". They have this dream that America can get rich again, if we only cut welfare, and cut taxes.
Time to wake up!

What would you say happened to Johnson's Great Society, not a lack of money spent, hopefully. But then, there is the paradox of whatever da gubr'ment subsidizes, it creates more of, unless gubr'ment dependency is the ultimate goal....

<<When things get rough, the rich as well as the super rich get more freebies from the government. That is because they know how to protect their assets while the government attempts to take more from everyone, but only succeed with taking from the poor and to a lesser extent the middle-class.
So you might ask how does the government take from the poorest, whose only income is from entitlements? It is accomplished by keeping the amount of the entitlements the same while reducing the value of those entitlement benefits. That is how the liberal scam works.>>

Alas, my son entered college this year. I don't see bright prospects for him or his classmates in 4-5 years.

Allowing job creation to flourish could be easy for Democrats but as the first Obama term proved, their words and actions gets in the way.
4 more depressing years of "Don't look at me, Republicans are doing this to you".
30 days ago Obama said "lets work together" -- Now its "Republicans aren't taking this serious, I'll be on vacation for a month".
... and the public opinion seems to be "that's right, you tell them Mr President".
Will anyone ever demand Democrats participate in tough decisions? I think that is looking slim now -- more of the same. Already, the Democrat gauntlet of "you can't cut anything" has been laid down.

Not the low paying service jobs either! We need to see plenty of the higher paying manufacturing jobs!

I'm predicting the "falter" scenario. Not only does the Obozo administration know nothing of what makes for a vibrant economy, it looks like a descent into a Greece-like state is preferred by our hallowed messiah. When things get rough, the people seem to want MORE freebies from the government. That's just the kind of reaction that socialists crave!
