States With Most Signatures to Secede Took Millions in Federal Money All the states petitioning to secede from the United States that obtained enough signatures to elicit a response from the White House - with the exception of Alabama - were some of the largest recipients of federal funding in 2010. Census records show that six of the seven states that amassed more than 25,000 signatures on their petitions to form independent nations in the past week took more than $10 million in revenue from the federal government that year. The seven states - Texas, Florida, Louisiana, Alabama, Georgia, Tennessee and North Carolina - took more than 23 percent of all federal revenue allotted to the states that year. ... In addition to the state's bid to leave, a user named Caleb M. created a petition asking that his home city of Austin be allowed to withdraw from the Lone Star State, while remaining part of the United States. Caleb still needed almost 20,000 signatures to get a response from the White House.

It only takes a few nuts in a state to request secession. Meaningless.

Well, if your attitude is to secede, then I sure hope you find somebody a tad better to run your 20 separate countries than the fellows that came out of the clown car this last go round, perhaps.

>> I have you to know that WVA traditionally votes democratic, but they were not fooled by Obama like many of you were. << Correct, they were not fooled by Obama. Because Fox Noise got to them first. Btw, WVA hasn't voted Democratic since 1996. Fun fact.

There are more Dem middle class workers paying taxes than Repubs. And they don't find the tax dodges most Repubs seem to prize themselves on finding. And most of the genius states with secession nuts collect a lot more federal largesse than they send to Washington. Dragon-I know what you mean-I have voted for moderate mainstream Repubs in the past...

If all of the "sore loser Republicans" left, who would pay for all of the Democrats' handouts?

jamofsocal, funny you said that... Listening to the radio earlier today, they were talking about the carbon cap taxes that are on the agenda there in your state, as well as other toxins that they want to place in the business environment, and how they expect business to leave in droves to other states. Arizona is hoping to capture some of these companies and welcome them into our economy.
I agree with you, California is a perfect textbook case of liberalism moving forward now unimpeded on a relatively smaller scale, and will prove to be interesting and enlightening case study to many other people throughout the country.

jamofsocal, "Sit back and watch how the once "fifth-largest-economy-in-the-world" will collapse into a third world state. We are the laboratory for liberal policies. We will be the proof that liberal social policies are unsustainable"
Detroit is leading the way in demonstrating the power of liberal policies.
Yesterday Detroit, today California and Illinois, tomorrow the nation!

>>I betcha the petitions all came from sore loser Republicans...<<
Please do not refer to these sullen little boys and their temper tantrums as Republicans. They are the Right Wing Fundamentalist Party. (Or the White Wing Floundering Mentally Party?)
The People's REPUBLIC of China is NOT Republican.
The USSR (Union of Soviet Socialist REPUBLICS) was not Republican.
Anyone can steal a good name, especially when they are too cowardly to tell us what they really are. These people are raging fanatics, more akin to the Iranian Sharia law fundamentalism than to true American values.
Be patient, worryfree. This sickness will eventually cure itself. Then, maybe the REAL Republicans will return.

Good Question, I do remember that Key West "seceded" a while back and named themselves the Conch Republic, lol.

I live in California. Let me give you a hint. The rest of the nation needs to get away from us. We are a disgrace!! The Democrats now have a super majority in the state legislature. If you thought it was crazy before, watch us now!!
And don't expect it to change anytime soon, because the RNC considers California a lost cause and does not want to invest any resources in it anymore.
Sit back and watch how the once "fifth-largest-economy-in-the-world" will collapse into a third world state. We are the laboratory for liberal policies. We will be the proof that liberal social policies are unsustainable.

And the Republicans have a right to be sore. I have heard on the radio and read on the internet both, that 59 precincts in Philadelphia voted 19,000 to 0 for Obama. Only way for that to happen is that the Romney votes were thrown out. Also, heard that the same thing happened in Cleveland, Ohio. People were on the radio show, from some of those districts, and they said, they voted for Romney. Where are the votes?

This seems to be just a part of the 'the sky is falling' mindset from ABOs who are feeling like the world has come to an end because Obama got reelected. They cry socialism but Obama has not made us a socialist nation. They cry this and that and all of it is absurd insignificant stuff or exaggerated baloney.
Seems to be part of the 5 stages of response to what they see as a devastating impact on their lives. What a bunch of sore losers. If Romney had won I would be wishing him well and hoping for the best.
Guess what. The sky is still up high. The world has not come to an end. We are still a capitalist nation. Our government still bows to the great money-gods of the corporate elite. Greed is still alive and well in the USA. We still have our guns and the same freedoms we had on Nov 5th. Home prices are still rising. Unemployment is still falling slowly. We are still gradually recovering from the grand financial Coup d'etat pulled off by the wizards of Wall Street.
And anyone who thinks any State will be granted secession is sorely bereft of US history knowledge.

Yet another "Republicans must be kooks" non story.
The upper peninsula of Michigan threatened to secede for years... ... until they did the math and found out they couldn't support themselves.
Next non story please

Many of those states represented by the petitions receive much more in federal funds than they pay in federal income tax (over $2 received for every $1 in taxes). Too bad they haven't a clue.

"States with citizens filing include Alabama, Arkansas, Colorado, Florida, Georgia, Indiana, Kentucky, Louisiana, Michigan, Mississippi, Missouri, Montana, New Jersey, New York, North Carolina, North Dakota, Oregon, South Carolina, Tennessee and Texas. Oddly, folks from Georgia have filed twice"
I'd be fine with losing Alabama, Arkansas, Indiana, Kentucky, Mississippi, South Carolina, Tennessee. lol
