If immigration laws were enforced, that is potentially 11 million votes less in the next national election. But then how would we know how many? Our government refuses to count how many ILLEGAL aliens are in this country.

Amnesty for ILLEGAL aliens will be used to try to distract people from Obama's scandals. So far it is working for the 46%, or low information citizens.

A group of people that came ( Snuck in ) here illegally want you to appease them by letting them stay with no recourse & all the benefits that the people that came here legally get???
Did I miss something here?

Probationary legal status = amnesty.
There is a reason we have immigration laws. Any person in this world should not be allowed to ILLEGALLY cross our borders and be rewarded and given amnesty ahead of those that are legally waiting in line to live and work here.

If amnesty is given, ILLEGALS will be put in front of the line ahead of those that are following our immigration laws.

Obama floats ambitious immigration bill, stops short of simple ‘amnesty’ promise
>>President Barack Obama will soon push for a massive change to U.S. immigration law that would provide a kind of conditional amnesty for roughly 11 million illegal immigrants, import more unskilled and skilled workers, and speed up visas for relatives of new arrivals.
(Speed up visas for relatives of new arrivals?) But the White House argues that the ambitious legislation would penalize illegal immigrants seeking legal status.
(Obama is criticizing his own proposal?) Obama’s bill was sketched out in a Jan. 12 leak to The New York Times, and it won immediate plaudits from the National Council of La Raza, a major Hispanic lobby group . . .<<
(La Raza is more than a lobby group. Just think if whites, for example, had a group called "The Race.")

Watch this video and see part of the reason why Los Angeles and California are in bad shape.
LA Mayor pushes President to move on immigration
Democratic Mayor of Los Angeles describes what he thinks immigration reform needs to include.
(I don't think Obama is going to let this guy any where near him.)

Like I have said many times before, deportation is not necessary except for those that do not have jobs anyway. Enforce our nation's laws against employers that hire ILLEGAL aliens. The problem will handle itself.

With legal amnesty, the paperwork alone would be impossible to accomplish.
What we are dealing with now is our government allowing amnesty by way of ignoring the immigration laws of the United States of America.

>>However, it is "highly unlikely" that we will ever be able to hunt down and ship back the illegals to wherever in the world they come from<<
You don't have to. Enforce immigration laws and fine/jail employers that hire ILLEGAL aliens. Also, do not give ILLEGAL aliens government handouts. I heard on the radio a couple of days ago that the Los Angeles County Sheriff is no longer going to turn "minor criminals" that happen to be ILLEGAL aliens over to the INS. After all, they haven't killed anyone yet -- that we know of.
>>As to illegal alien children, I'm not opposed to the Dream Act.<<
We need to change the 14th Ammendment. I was watching the news a couple of days ago. They were showing a house somewhere near Los Angeles where women that are about 8 months pregnant are sent to on "vacation" from China. It just so happens that when their children are born they become United States citizens.
>>And remember - in Mexico, it is a felony to sneak over the border. It is only a misdemenaor here in the US. And when we tried to make it a felony, Mexico vigorously objected.<<
Mexico is not the only foreign country that is suing us for not doing everything that we can for their citizens.

Now, we have somewhere between 11 and 30 million people who are illegal aliens here in the US. (I will use the term "illegal" as they are here illegally. They ought to be deamonized by this, as they broke the law coming here, and continue to break our laws by staying here. They're not just "undocumented", they are here illegally and that needs to be emphasized.)
However, it is "highly unlikely" that we will ever be able to hunt down and ship back the illegals to wherever in the world they come from (and notice that I didn't single out any nationality nor race, nor continent). So, in a practical sense, what we ought to do is 1) give the illegals a form of permanent residency that lasts for something like 5 years. After which, they can prove the have work and go for some kind of permanent residency - or they can go back to where they come from. IF someone is illegal and goes throught he process, if they can prove they are an asset to the US, and we need them here, let them apply for citizenship.
As to illegal alien children, I'm not opposed to the Dream Act. However, again, I want to see them do some sort of public service to earn their right to citizenship, but they should have a somewhat easier path.
Now, as to what to do next, I wonder? Is this same hispanic group going to call for another amnisty a year or 5 years later? And what do they propose to end the illegal problem here on a go-forward basis? I say, grant some kind of status to the ones who are already here. But then VIGOROUSLY enforce the laws, and VIGOROUSLY enforce our borders. What is this group's solution to the illegal problem? Making anyone who walks over our border as legal isn't a useful solution.
And remember - in Mexico, it is a felony to sneak over the border. It is only a misdemenaor here in the US. And when we tried to make it a felony, Mexico vigorously objected. Proving that they are hypocrites.

Hate to disagree with you, johnnyg, but there was never an agreement agreed on in the House and/or Senate. There was no amnesty given -- officially. This country has turned its back on the issue though.
The partnership between McCain and Kennedy, BTW, was one of the reasons that I just could not vote for McCain four years ago.

Eventually they will become legal, although there is plenty of work to do to get the criminal ones deported first. The rest i am sure both parties want to keep here for cheap labor. We do need those folks to work at harvest time.

101 Speedester; “””There has not been any amnesty since the one during Ronald Reagan's term. I hope that we learn from history.””
Although it was not called an “Amnesty” it amounted to the same thing.
“”The Bush administration and a bipartisan group of senators reached agreement yesterday on a sprawling overhaul of the nation's immigration laws that would bring an estimated 12 million illegal immigrants out of society's shadows while stiffening border protections and cracking down on employers of undocumented workers. “” - This is the Washington Post’s take on it. - What I find odd is that even the Huffington Post seems to be against amnesty and for many of the same reasons I am. I think this is the first time I have to say I agree with that rag. -

There are reasons that the United States has immigration laws.
>>"Republicans are anti-immigration"<<
Republicans are for legal immigration. Not sure who made the quote above, but I wonder if they know why immigration laws are important to a nation?

I think new talking points propaganda were released from the regime today. I heard it a couple times in different places and thought it was odd.
"Republicans are anti-immigration"
Huh? since when? They then cite Romney's self-deportation statement.
yeah, they are at it again -- say anything!
If you walked into our Country without first checking in at the door, you are not an immigrant.
Once Democrats implement their open borders immigration policy, the flood gate will be released.

Either way all it did was give us 11 million more illegals to deal with. The Illegals need to be sent home period~!!!!!!!!!

There needs to be a path to legalize them. There already is, but they chose not to take that path, send them all home, and tell them to go about coming to this country the right way.

That puts ILLEGALS at the front of the line and rewards them for breaking our laws. That hurts those that are attempting to come into the United States by following our laws.

NAFTA isn't working with Mexico. Close the border and THEN issue every illegal immigrant here a secure temporary visa/green card.
They can then get in line RIGHT BEHIND everyone else who applied for citizenship legally. Unless, of course, they enlist in the military for three years as a path to citizenship. That has always been an option.

BUT I do believe the immigration laws in the US for people trying to LEGALLY become US citizens is Archaic & needs tweeking.
ALSO Illegals that are here... There needs to be a PATH TO LEGALIZE them.

101, "most hispanics prefer generous welfare policies". It is that attitude that sends hispanics running from the GOP into the open arms of the dem party. This same attitude about blacks has made them so distrustful of cons.
I put the outrageous hispanic demands in the same category as the con secession demands. The difference of course is the secessionists lean toward treason all the while claiming to be patriots. They live among us.

Take an example from what Georgia did... Pass serious penalties for employers that hire illegal aliens including criminal penalties. Then the illegals will do just what they did in Georgia... Run for the border! Sure our farmers were upset that their cheap labor was gone but it sure put a dent in the illegal alien population of Georgia.
I think Mitt Romney called it SELF-DEPORTATION.
