Herman Cain: A nation divided, big and small

>>Herman Cain called the United States a “divided nation” on Wednesday, saying that half the voters ignored the big issues . . .

Cain criticized half of the electorate for ignoring the “substance” and focusing instead on what he characterized as less substantive matters.

“I just think, unfortunately, 50 percent of the electorate really don’t look deep enough at the substance of some of these big issues,” Cain said. “And as a result, we are going to be stalled right where we are today.”

He also said that Obama won because he is a popular figure.

“The voters that reelected President Obama looked past broken promises, they looked past a stagnant economy and they voted for popularity,” Cain charged. “President Obama ran a very effective popularity campaign, not a campaign of substance. Unfortunately from my perspective and the perspective of many others, he won based on popularity.”<<

streetrider, >>The tea party started out with some valued ideology, however when one treads forward unyielding, in this ever dynamic world, they soon loose traction and are outdated.<
~
Your position would be valid were it not for the fact that most, if not all, of our present day problems are the result of Congress failing in its sworn duty to defend and uphold the US Constitution against ALL enemies. Both parties prostitute themselves to gain campaign funding or personal favors from affluential people, lobbyists, corporations, organizations, and foreign countries.

Compromising with a politician who wants to abuse his or her authority, is being complicit in completely ignoring the 'Law of the Land,' the US Constitution.

Neither 'dynamics' or expediency should be considered when our freedom, rights, future, or our posterity's future is at stake.

"Then why do most people vote for either of the two major parties? The TEA Party members seem to be the only people making the effort to hold elected officials accountable."

The tea party started out with some valued ideology, however when one treads forward unyielding, in this ever dynamic world, they soon loose traction and are outdated.

My guess is people vote for the response the other two parties are known for.

The primary divider, in my opinion, is whether or not an elected official lives up to his or her oath to uphold and defend the US Constitution. Those on the left, again in my opinion, could care less about what Article I, Section 8 of the Constitution says. Ditto for many, too many, Republicans. It all about retaining power and giving lip service to staying within the confines of the US Constitution.

>>How are we as Americans so politically divided?<<

Why do some people like to work? Why do some people like to sit at home and get paid by the government?

Why do some people think that anyone in the world should be able to enter, work, and live in the United States, with or without our government's permission?

Why do some people think that the immigration laws in this country should be enforced?

Why do some people think that anyone that starts a successful business is evil?

You get the idea . . .

My guess is most of us Americans have similar views. When you add politics in the mix the only way for a politician to win is to divide the voters, he who can create the image closest to our own or paint the opponent with supporting a detrimental agendas wins.

What our politicians speak and what they actually do or don't do may in fact be two divergent things.

My guess is there is a very small percentage that want their kid to collect welfare and food stamps. So divide we stand.

Agreed. That is excellent news. It's just too bad that so many low information voters were duped by Obama's lies.

"Read history we have all ways been a divided nation."

Exactly. Upon occasion those divisions result in armed conflict between the sides, but time seems to keep moving nevertheless. A peaceful divorce might be a preferable solution.

Half the country thinks there are scandals in this country.

Half the country does not care if anyone is held accountable for the four deaths of American citizens in Benghazi.

More than half of the people in this country do not pay income taxes.

Half of the country does not care if the IRS targets Tea Party groups or Republicans.

From the link that jdhelm reposted below:

>>Black leaders will have their blackness questioned if they dare speak out on the dysfunction in black America. They are not supposed to air dirty laundry by speaking the crisis of fatherless children, high rates of poverty, tragic drop-out rates and incarceration that weigh on black progress and constitute the major challenge to black America in this generation . . .

The president acknowledged that racism and discrimination are a fact of life even today but standing there as the first black President said the age of excuses is slipping away as people from China, Brazil and around the world, often born to less privilege than poor Americans, find a way to compete and succeed.<<

I don't see it. In my opinion, the great dividers are those on the Far Right today. It may be time for them to separate from the rest of the USA and go their own way.

101Speedster, "I have to admit that I don't understand what you are talking about, Panama >>the killing of inconvenient children<<"

Really? Were you unaware of his strong support for abortion for any reason, even extending his support for late term abortions in which the child is delivered except for the top of its head and is then killed?

My point is that character counts, and that the things that Obama has supported make faking a marriage pale by comparison.

Sorry if I was unclear.

101Speedster, "No one seems to care that the Obamas appear to be separated and living a fake marriage"

Coming from someone that champions the killing of inconvenient children, the taking from those that produce to give to those that do not, who squanders the nation's wealth on his own personal whims and pleasures, and who keeps the most basic details of his past secret - where is the surprise?

It seems to be in character for them both.

here are a few of the current potus' devisive comments:

-

No one has done more in last several decades with his inflammatory community organizer rhetoric to divide this country than Barack Obama.

** Obama: “They Bring a Knife…We Bring a Gun”
** Obama to His Followers: “Get in Their Faces!”
** Obama on ACORN Mobs: “I don’t want to quell anger. I think people are right to be angry! I’m angry!”
** Obama to His Mercenary Army: “Hit Back Twice As Hard”
** Obama on the private sector: “We talk to these folks… so I know whose ass to kick.“
** Obama to voters: Republican victory would mean “hand to hand combat”
** Obama to lib supporters: “It’s time to Fight for it.”
** Obama: “My administration is the only thing between you and the pitchforks.”
** Obama: “I will be happy to see the Republicans test whether or not I’m itching for a fight on a whole range of issues. I suspect they will find I am.”
** Obama: “It’s tempting not to negotiate with hostage takers”
** Obama: “We’re going to punish our enemies”
** Obama: “Those aren’t the kinds of folks who represent our core American values.”

And there’s this:

** “All 50 States are coordinating in this – as we fight back against our own Right-Wing Domestic Terrorists who are subverting the American Democratic Process, whipped to a frenzy by their Fox Propaganda Network ceaselessly re-seizing power for their treacherous leaders.”

--

African Americans: “Take off your bedroom slippers. Put on your marching shoes. Shake it off. Stop complainin’. Stop grumblin’. Stop cryin’.”

Americans: Are “not a model for the world” and have a “tragic history.” Also, “we’re hardwired not to always think clearly when we’re scared,” and, more recently, we have gotten “a little soft” and lost our “competitive edge.”

Bankers: “Fat cats”

Border enforcement: Its overzealous adherents want “alligators and moats” on the border and would arrest children on their way to get ice cream.

The Cambridge, Mass., police: “Acted stupidly” and, like law-enforcement officers in general, racially profile

Corporate-jet owners: “Are you willing to compromise your kids’ safety so some corporate-jet owner can get a tax break?”

Democratic base: Must “shake off this lethargy. People need to buck up . . . if people now want to take their ball and go home, that tells me folks weren’t serious in the first place.”

Doctors: Needlessly chop off the limbs of diabetics and take out tonsils to increase their own profits

Donald Trump: A “carnival barker”

Grandmother: “Typical white person”

Las Vegas: Where you are likely to “blow a bunch of cash when you’re trying to save for college”

Millionaires: They don’t pay their “fair share” and are synonymous with those who have 1,000 times more.

Nancy Reagan: Don’t “get into a Nancy Reagan thing about, you know, doing any séances.”

Rural Pennsylvanians: “They get bitter, they cling to guns or religion or antipathy toward people who aren’t like them or anti-immigrant sentiment.”

Sarah Palin: “You can put lipstick on a pig. It’s still a pig.”

Special Olympics: Comparable to the president’s dismal bowling scores

Super Bowl: Where you go “on the taxpayer’s dime”

Supreme Court: Would “open the floodgates for special interests”

Supreme Court Justice Thomas: “I would not have nominated Clarence Thomas. I don’t think that he, I don’t think that he was a strong enough jurist or legal thinker at the time for that elevation.”

Tea Party: “The teabag, anti-government people”

How often has President Obama claimed not to be anti-business? Yet continues in speech after speech to express disdain for corporations and insurance companies. He is often demonizing “the rich”, thereby fanning the flames of class warfare while fostering wealth envy and an entitlement mentality amongst “the have nots”.

-------

“Corporations” and “greed” seem to go together in every Obama address. “Spread the wealth around” and all forms of higher taxes on successful entrepreneurs are part of the president’s reelection platform. I don’t recall a President benefiting from so much American innovative business success (Facebook, Google, Twitter, Groupon and scores more) who is so hostile to the concept of the American Dream.

So is this Administration the most anti-business in recent memory?

Yes. No one else even comes close.

------

who said this?

“The people who represent you in Washington have a responsibility to do what’s best for you — not what’s best for their party or what’s going to help them win an election that’s more than a year away.” --PotUS calling the kettles …er… better not go there lest there be charges of making a race comment.

----Far from being presidential, far from traveling the road high above political mudslinging, far from actually seeking honest bipartisan cooperation, President Obama has been the most divisive president….ever. And it’s not simply natural political polarity, bipartisan in nature. Much of the division has been unilaterally of the President’s own creation, due to his rhetoric and his policies.

It's sort of like what's happened as people have fled the liberal taxes, the liberal crime, the liberal schools, and the liberal lifestyle of the cities and moved to the suburbs and exurbs. By the way, how's that working out for you all in Detroit?

Who is the minority when the voters are split close to 50/50?

Anyway, 87% of people in this country say that we should have a balanced budget.
