Herman Cain: A nation divided, big and small

>>Herman Cain called the United States a “divided nation” on Wednesday, saying that half the voters ignored the big issues . . .

Cain criticized half of the electorate for ignoring the “substance” and focusing instead on what he characterized as less substantive matters.

“I just think, unfortunately, 50 percent of the electorate really don’t look deep enough at the substance of some of these big issues,” Cain said. “And as a result, we are going to be stalled right where we are today.”

He also said that Obama won because he is a popular figure.

“The voters that reelected President Obama looked past broken promises, they looked past a stagnant economy and they voted for popularity,” Cain charged. “President Obama ran a very effective popularity campaign, not a campaign of substance. Unfortunately from my perspective and the perspective of many others, he won based on popularity.”<<

101Speedster, "I have to admit that I don't understand what you are talking about, Panama >>the killing of inconvenient children<<"

Really? Were you unaware of his strong support for abortion for any reason, even extending his support for late term abortions in which the child is delivered except for the top of its head and is then killed?

My point is that character counts, and that the things that Obama has supported make faking a marriage pale by comparison.

Sorry if I was unclear.

101Speedster, "No one seems to care that the Obamas appear to be separated and living a fake marriage"

Coming from someone that champions the killing of inconvenient children, the taking from those that produce to give to those that do not, who squanders the nation's wealth on his own personal whims and pleasures, and who keeps the most basic details of his past secret - where is the surprise?

It seems to be in character for them both.

Obama is giving back 5% of his pay. Now, if he would only give back enough money to cover his vacations that the taxpayers have to pay for.

here are a few of the current potus' devisive comments:

-

No one has done more in last several decades with his inflammatory community organizer rhetoric to divide this country than Barack Obama.

** Obama: “They Bring a Knife…We Bring a Gun”
** Obama to His Followers: “Get in Their Faces!”
** Obama on ACORN Mobs: “I don’t want to quell anger. I think people are right to be angry! I’m angry!”
** Obama to His Mercenary Army: “Hit Back Twice As Hard”
** Obama on the private sector: “We talk to these folks… so I know whose ass to kick.“
** Obama to voters: Republican victory would mean “hand to hand combat”
** Obama to lib supporters: “It’s time to Fight for it.”
** Obama: “My administration is the only thing between you and the pitchforks.”
** Obama: “I will be happy to see the Republicans test whether or not I’m itching for a fight on a whole range of issues. I suspect they will find I am.”
** Obama: “It’s tempting not to negotiate with hostage takers”
** Obama: “We’re going to punish our enemies”
** Obama: “Those aren’t the kinds of folks who represent our core American values.”

And there’s this:

** “All 50 States are coordinating in this – as we fight back against our own Right-Wing Domestic Terrorists who are subverting the American Democratic Process, whipped to a frenzy by their Fox Propaganda Network ceaselessly re-seizing power for their treacherous leaders.”

--

African Americans: “Take off your bedroom slippers. Put on your marching shoes. Shake it off. Stop complainin’. Stop grumblin’. Stop cryin’.”

Americans: Are “not a model for the world” and have a “tragic history.” Also, “we’re hardwired not to always think clearly when we’re scared,” and, more recently, we have gotten “a little soft” and lost our “competitive edge.”

Bankers: “Fat cats”

Border enforcement: Its overzealous adherents want “alligators and moats” on the border and would arrest children on their way to get ice cream.

The Cambridge, Mass., police: “Acted stupidly” and, like law-enforcement officers in general, racially profile

Corporate-jet owners: “Are you willing to compromise your kids’ safety so some corporate-jet owner can get a tax break?”

Democratic base: Must “shake off this lethargy. People need to buck up . . . if people now want to take their ball and go home, that tells me folks weren’t serious in the first place.”

Doctors: Needlessly chop off the limbs of diabetics and take out tonsils to increase their own profits

Donald Trump: A “carnival barker”

Grandmother: “Typical white person”

Las Vegas: Where you are likely to “blow a bunch of cash when you’re trying to save for college”

Millionaires: They don’t pay their “fair share” and are synonymous with those who have 1,000 times more.

Nancy Reagan: Don’t “get into a Nancy Reagan thing about, you know, doing any séances.”

Rural Pennsylvanians: “They get bitter, they cling to guns or religion or antipathy toward people who aren’t like them or anti-immigrant sentiment.”

Sarah Palin: “You can put lipstick on a pig. It’s still a pig.”

Special Olympics: Comparable to the president’s dismal bowling scores

Super Bowl: Where you go “on the taxpayer’s dime”

Supreme Court: Would “open the floodgates for special interests”

Supreme Court Justice Thomas: “I would not have nominated Clarence Thomas. I don’t think that he, I don’t think that he was a strong enough jurist or legal thinker at the time for that elevation.”

Tea Party: “The teabag, anti-government people”

How often has President Obama claimed not to be anti-business? Yet continues in speech after speech to express disdain for corporations and insurance companies. He is often demonizing “the rich”, thereby fanning the flames of class warfare while fostering wealth envy and an entitlement mentality amongst “the have nots”.

-------

“Corporations” and “greed” seem to go together in every Obama address. “Spread the wealth around” and all forms of higher taxes on successful entrepreneurs are part of the president’s reelection platform. I don’t recall a President benefiting from so much American innovative business success (Facebook, Google, Twitter, Groupon and scores more) who is so hostile to the concept of the American Dream.

So is this Administration the most anti-business in recent memory?

Yes. No one else even comes close.

------

who said this?

“The people who represent you in Washington have a responsibility to do what’s best for you — not what’s best for their party or what’s going to help them win an election that’s more than a year away.” --PotUS calling the kettles …er… better not go there lest there be charges of making a race comment.

----Far from being presidential, far from traveling the road high above political mudslinging, far from actually seeking honest bipartisan cooperation, President Obama has been the most divisive president….ever. And it’s not simply natural political polarity, bipartisan in nature. Much of the division has been unilaterally of the President’s own creation, due to his rhetoric and his policies.

It's sort of like what's happened as people have fled the liberal taxes, the liberal crime, the liberal schools, and the liberal lifestyle of the cities and moved to the suburbs and exurbs. By the way, how's that working out for you all in Detroit?

You're smug now, but remember that what goes around comes around.

Tomorrow your side will have a grip on the short end of the stick, and what you do now will be returned to you with interest then.

For good or for ill.

Who is the minority when the voters are split close to 50/50?

Anyway, 87% of people in this country say that we should have a balanced budget.

mud, good comment on the justices, I'm betting you're right.

I'd expect his speech to have a direct campaign air and have several voice inflectionary points, - - - he is, after all, great at speaking, not so much at leading or coming up with any ideas on the economy - or jobs.

just look at the jobs numbers during his administration so far - - - oh heck, i forgot, but he inherited a bad economy from Bush and so many many things are still Bush's fault and as a result of Bush - - - duh me.

Do you suppose we'll hear any "Bush's fault" comments tonight?

"will Obama try to bring America together or will he continue to divide the country?"

The nation has already been deeply divided for quite some time. Warm, fuzzy, "feel good" efforts to bring folks together at this point would be futile. There's now nothing sensible left to do but declare the relationship dead, part company, then go on with our respective lives separately. The Right has made its choice, so now it's time to demonstrate to the world how correct their ideology is. Bon voyage!

sgm4law, "It's a bystander's look at the strategies possible for one side to employ against another. Read it yourself, instead of reading the Foxified version"

The original version is worse than the Fox article reported.

"The president who came into office speaking in lofty terms about bipartisanship and cooperation can only cement his legacy if he destroys the GOP. If he wants to transform American politics, he must go for the throat...

Obama’s only remaining option is to pulverize. Whether he succeeds in passing legislation or not, given his ambitions, his goal should be to delegitimize his opponents. Through a series of clarifying fights over controversial issues, he can force Republicans to either side with their coalition's most extreme elements or cause a rift in the party that will leave it, at least temporarily, in disarray.

The president can stir up these fights by poking the fear among Republicans that the party is becoming defined by its most extreme elements, which will in turn provoke fear among the most faithful conservatives that weak-willed conservatives are bending to the popular mood. That will lead to more tin-eared, dooming declarations of absolutism...

Presidents don’t usually sow discord in their inaugural addresses ... If it doesn’t, and he tries to conjure our better angels or summon past American heroes, then it will be among the most forgettable speeches, because the next day he’s going to return to pitched political battle. He has no time to waste"

These are not "possible strategies", they are recommendations.

Do you recall how worked up the media got over the symbols Palin used for targeting vulnerable Dem races?

That was pretty mild stuff compared to the recommendations that Obama "destroy", "go for the throat" and "pulverize" the GOP, and to "sow discord in [his] inaugural address".

No media bias THERE, is there?

The abject dishonesty of the left is breath taking.

I should also say, it's a self-interested thing for a newsperson to want more strife rather than less in our national discourse. That's what drives their ratings. Of course he'd like Obama to go on attack; it's better drama by far.

"According to the denizens of the left there is no partisanship in the mainstream media - except at Fox."

The only blindness here is assuming that because a guy analyzes a situation in political science type terms that he wants things to happen that way.

It's a bystander's look at the strategies possible for one side to employ against another. Read it yourself, instead of reading the Foxified version.

101Speedster, "During his speeches today, will Obama try to bring America together or will he continue to divide the country?"

It seems more likely that he will follow the advice of CBS News:

CBS political director urges Obama to 'go for the throat' of GOP to cement legacy

"The subhead on the article said, 'Obama must declare war on the Republican Party' if he wants to transform American politics.

Dickerson wrote. 'The president who came into office speaking in lofty terms about bipartisanship and cooperation can only cement his legacy if he destroys the GOP. If he wants to transform American politics, he must go for the throat.'

The advice comes despite the eventual willingness of the Republican Party to allow tax increases on top earners, as part of the recent fiscal crisis deal. Republicans have also eased off their opposition to raising the debt ceiling, proposing a three-month extension while a budget is debated.

Dickerson was named CBS' political director in November 2011"

According to the denizens of the left there is no partisanship in the mainstream media - except at Fox.

Amazing blindness on the left.
