GasBuddy Heat MapAs Americans prepare for their July 4 travel plans, gasoline prices are holding near levels we haven't seen since that nasty summer at the pump back in 2008. But relief may be coming as the situation in Iraq cools slightly, and refineries boost production to take advantage of the higher prices. The national average this morning seems like it's almost out of steam, having risen almost daily since news of Iraq hit papers on June 10. It currently stands at a 2014 high water mark- some $3.69/gallon- and while relief isn't going to be fast, we will likely see a slight decrease emerge over the next week or two (provided there are no major influencing events- such as a hurricane or refinery problem.By July 4, we expect the national average to be near $3.70/gallon, but then expect to see a gradual decrease to begin, and it could mean the national average drops to $3.65 in two weeks....

I'll like it if this happens. And I'll like it more if it's wrong by the prices falling quickly instead of slowly.

Anyone that thinks oil/gasoline is going down,or that the last 11 years of high or sky high oil/fuel prices is all Obama's fault is simply not informed on this issue----the price of crude oil was artificially driven to the ridiculous prices you see today(and have seen for years, even before we knew who Obama was) with the second invasion of Iraq(and much more important than the invasion, the splitting up-and handing out, in the form of cheap oil leases,Iraq's oil- to a host of international oil corporations-and mostly China)the strange propaganda war on Venezuela helped drive prices(a country that was no threat, but does have less than 10 cent per gallon gasoline)the sanctions on Iran, the trade law changes, the 2005 and 2007 ethanol mandates-among other things---Obama has had zero influence on oil/fuel prices until very recently, and his horrible ideas will now make things even worse than they have been for a long time-but the only reason oil/fuel prices were low for a few short months when he took office was because of the market crash-as soon as the W Cheney, and then his own bailouts got the economy back up--the high or sky high prices we have seen since 2003 were right back--and they are never going away with any very expensive to lift, north American produced frack/shale/tar oil-----there is no oil boom in Texas,Dakota's--there are only a bunch of international oil corporations extracting oil that they finally have high enough prices to extract-oil that they have known about for at least a half a century--oil that was always going to be WAY too expensive to get out of the ground until march 20 2003---that's why we see no drop in price at the pump----frack/shale/tar oil will never drop any price anywhere---these resources are the exact opposite of cheap easy to access oil.And before march 20 2003 there were no Asian markets to export incredibly expensive to lift frack/shale/tar oil too---they simply bought it on a fair world market for $20.00 per barrel like we did----and now that these markets were created with war and lies, they will find a way to get this expensive oil to them--and when they do,our prices will jump again-no matter who is in the white house--and any bad situation in the middle east will always cause a rise in price because that's who has real oil fields--and Iraq's super cheap, easy to access huge oil fields are now controlled by many international interests-and mostly China---so unless we completely change our energy policy back to the way it was during the Clinton years--get used to even higher prices than we have seen the last 11 years--I have no idea why the democrats also changed from the way Clinton handled oil/fuel prices, which was fantastic--to what they are doing now, which is terrible-it can only be pay out.

Yes, it is possible gas prices could start falling but it is far more likely gas prices will continue to rise at an unprecedented rate.

When you normalize it by the price index, is it still the most expensive?
