It's that time of year, with many motorcyclists flocking back to their bikes after what has been a long, harsh winter across much of the country.

As motorcycles hit roads, motorists need to heed extra caution before pulling out and look twice to save a life, a tag line many rider associations try and remind the car driving public.

Whether it's a ride for charity or an afternoon cruise, bike educators say with the temperatures going up, two-wheeled vehicles are hitting the road again.

"They're just fun. They're a great lifestyle," said Harley Davidson Safety Academy's Rick Bonds.

He says that with that lifestyle comes responsibility for both motorcycle and automobile drivers.

"Most accidents...

motorcyl have never left the roads here on the central coast of California.
I hate when they weave thru trafffic to get to the front. It does not feel safe.

many riders of the crotch rockets seem to care little about obeying any rules. most other cyclists seem to follow them.

Most people. don't have a clue: That motorcycle you are following ten feet behind can stop around 30 feet shorter than a Laborghini from 60 MPH, your big-ass pickup truck is going to drag that poor dude for 50+ feet if he has to stop suddenly.

And I have never seen a bicyclist stop for a stop sign either. I started wearing the bright day glow green shirts when I ride my motorcycle. Sad I have to go to this extreme because of all of the distracted drivers tinkering while they drive.

I sat here reading this article while three crotch rockets went down our residential street at at least 60 mph with the engines roaring. I don't think that the cage drivers are at fault most of the time!

The interstate signs along I-75 have similar warnings. When gas prices go up, more people hit the road with their cycles.

accidents are no surprise when idiots take rice rockets to their limits on two lane country roads. As long as they don't take any other lives but their own, that's fine with me...

Bonds says that, "...they're(drivers) not looking for them..." That's not necessarily true. I look for everything including joggers, people on bikes, animals and motorcycles. There are blind spots and sometimes drivers just don't see motorcycles on the road. I could say most motorcyclists drive too fast, pop wheelies, and weave in and out of traffic, but that statement wouldn't be true either.

I think th egas price rising and motorcycles deathe rising is a bit of a red herring.
statistically- the relationship should be about per capita.....
higher prices more riders, more riders man more injuries/deaths.

so the same is still true since the 80's...

Temperatures warm, motorcycles hitting the road!!! OUCH, Hitting the road??? Both motor vehicle drivers and motorcyclists need to look twice and be extra cautious at all times. It may be a motorcycle, a bicyclists, or a person crossing the street/road IN the 'crosswalk!' ***The excuse, 'I never saw him' does Not work!
***Motorcyclist need to watch the front tires/wheels of the cars or trucks (in the corner of their eyes) when passing or riding, it's the first indication of what the vehicle is going to do. Ride in the left area of the lane if alone or staggered left to right with multiply riders. Motorcyclists here are required to ride with their light ON and wear a helmet. ***Flashing lights are good!
***Those motorcyists that weave in and out of traffic OR ride alongside the road to pass are irresponsible and a danger to all. **Stay in the traffic lane at all times!
***HEY, It's one of the weekend topics you will be seeing for four days!
Drive vehicles with high mpg, are very safe, reliable, have a ‘reasonable’ cost and a good ‘value’ for the money.
The price of fuel at the pump is too high!
