The Toyota Tacoma midsize pickup retains its value better than any other truck or SUV, according to the latest Used Car Guide from the National Automobile Dealers Association.

NADA says a Toyota Tacoma can be expected to retain 80.7 percent of its purchase price after three years, making it the leader in the midsize pickup group and in all vehicle segments covered in the report.

At the other end of the spectrum is the Suzuki Grand Vitara, in the compact SUV category, which can be expected to retain just 41.5 percent of its value over the same time period.

NADA bases retention rates on the most common trim level of three-year old vehicles, in this case light-duty trucks and SUVs from the 2011 model year. The...

Hey there J ERIC if you drive here in Wi. you better have your vehicles rust proofed, for that matter any place that gets a lot of snow and salt all over the road. Of course over here they used excessive amounts of salt, you can tell when it dry out and your on the road it blows white dust all over, this gets into every place on your vehicles and then you got it rust!!

magpie: get ready to see more trouble with Ford, and recently GMC, having announced to go to aluminum body trucks.

Al + NaCl = trouble.

Tacoma is very popular in the Western states, Magpie. I guess Wisconsin is hard on all vehicles. I remember visiting New York and being shocked at all the rust seen on pickups (of various makes) and cars. Perhaps some day, they will be made of aluminum which should stop the rust problem?

Not here in Wisconsin the motors are good but the bodies rust out. Not good where there is snow and salt they rust more than any other vehicle, just from what I have seen and from friends who have owned them.

Funny how Japan has an economic slump that lasted over 10 years, and their auto manufacturers are doing great today.

Funny how Toyota came out with a full size truck that gets worse gas mileage than their American counterparts and they somehow hold their value better.

As do most "foreign" cars. But I don't want one when it comes to construction. American trucks are the way to go.

Those Suzukis were loaded with incentives even when they were brand new. No wonder Suzuki pulled out of the market.
