After huge security breaches at Target Corp. and Neiman Marcus in the last month, the National Association of Convenience Stores is sounding another alert: Bluetooth-enabled skimmers at fuel pumps.

According to NACS, thirteen people have been charged with stealing millions from banking information intercepted by skimmers at gas stations in South Carolina, Texas, and Georgia.

There's some good news, according to Naked Security: at least 13 people have been indicted for the act that took place across the South and East.

“By using skimming devices planted inside gas station pumps, these defendants are accused of fueling the fastest growing crime in the country,” said Manhattan District Attorney Cyrus Vance Jr....

Lock them up for a long time when caught.

It's either that or implant a unique chip in every person with the number 666 on it...

Maybe they should have alarms on the pumps, and a extra camera on wouldn't hurt either! They should do some thing about it at the gas stations don't you think?

Security breaches are really scary! The last thing that I want to do is have to go inside and pay cash for my gasoline (or anything else for that matter).

Cash is best. Besides many charge extra for CC use. Go inside to use plastic if you can trust the employees who work there.

You can't trust anyone or anything anywhere anymore.

It's just so sad.

The thieves, according to news reports I've seen, have the master key to open up the pumps and put the scanners inside the pumps - thus, why they are not noticed for weeks at a time.

Because they can download over bluetooth, the crooks drive up, park for five minutes - probably go inside and buy a hot dog, Doritos, and a Polar Pop, all while downloading the data.

This is going to get bigger than the Target security breach!

Are these devices being attached to the pumps or are they being installed within the pump?

You need ID Theft protection from LegalShield. It is the ONLY one that covers all 5 TYPES. Banking/financial transactions are only 17% of theft. It's only $14.95 a month.

Bluetooth skimmers reap millions from fuel pumps. By using skimming devices planted inside gas station pumps, these defendants are accused of fueling the fastest growing crime in the country. Cyber criminals and identity thieves are not limited to any geographic region.
They are charged with stealing personal identifiying information from victims in southern states, used forged bank cards on the East Coast, and withdrew stolen proceeds on the West Coast. Motorist should remain vigilant and check your banking accounts often.
How do they gain access to the inside of the pump or is it an inside job by an employee?
Watch for anything protruding from the gas pump card slot.....
The Bluetooth skimmers in this artice is so old and out of date, just like this article.
Change US credit cards to the European standards.....
Drive vehicles with high mpg, are very safe, reliable, have a ‘reasonable’ cost and a good ‘value’ for the money.
The price of fuel at the pump is too high!
