It's going to be a hot topic in 2014: motor gasoline taxes. Already, some in Congress have called for a 15-cent per gallon rise in federal gasoline taxes, and some states could see jumps in their state gas taxes as well- so who's going to shell out the most?

Many motorists saw state gasoline taxes change already in 2013:
Arizona, Alaska, California, Connecticut, Florida, Hawaii, Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, Nebraska, New York, Oregon, South Dakota, Vermont, Virginia, Washington DC, and Wyoming all saw their state gasoline taxes change. Two states saw automatic changes: North Carolina and Georgia.

And as folks ring in 2014, Pennsylvania will be raising its gasoline tax, and it's sure...

Increase in taxes doesn't mean roads are getting repaired just a ploy to increase the pocket change for those that don't want to work

It's ok to raise the highway use tax rates, as long as the proceeds are used for,roads.

In hindsight our prices edge up on weekends 3~5 cents a litre. We've been drifting up that $1.20 in Jan to $1.25~1.30 now.

California seems awfully high. We are back up to $4 a gallon in Los Angeles. But then its nice to go on vacation out of state and actually pay less for gas.

Taxes are coming in more places than this list seems to indicate. Many of them are "hidden" taxes that governments say very little about. One frequent dodge when governments talk about taxes on gasoline is to use weasel phrases like: "Total taxes collected at the RETAIL level" [emphasis added]. Half of the taxes are imposed BEFORE the retail collection.

A mileage tax that can be tracked yearly or monthly for individuals and families may be a better alternative in the long run. Unfortunately, it would also be a break in the system if numbers are not recorded correctly.

They should make it a mileage tax. This way it would cover all of the hybrids, LNG and electric vehicles...

If the fuel tax for the Repair or Replacement of Roads and Bridges is spent for Roads and Bridges there would be less of a need to raise the fuel tax! Each state needs to take care of the repair or replacement of their roads and bridges before using the money for other items or things. People do Not have the extra money in this country's present socialist economy to pay for more taxes. Some are just getting by and some still have No Job. No More Taxes!
Charge a percentage of the fuel cost so the taxes go up with a rise in the cost of fuel. It's called a 'Sales Tax!'
ALL vehicles should pay their fair share - EVs and Inbreds included!
Drive vehicles with high mpg, are very safe, reliable, have a ‘reasonable’ cost and a good ‘value’ for the money.
The price of fuel at the pump is too high!

Federal government only $.15, state government only a few cents (at least at a time). As has been said before only two things are sure, death and taxes and it looks like we are being taxed to death.
