The Energy Information Administration released its weekly report on the status of petroleum inventories in the United States today.

Here are some highlights:

CRUDE INVENTORIES:
Crude oil inventories decreased by 5.6 million barrels to a total of 385.8 million barrels. At 385.8 million barrels, inventories are 14.1 million barrels above last year (3.8%) and are above the upper part of the average range for this time of year.

GASOLINE INVENTORIES:
Gasoline inventories increased by 1.8 million barrels to 212.4 million barrels. At 212.4 million barrels, inventories are up .3 million barrels, or 0.1% higher than one year ago. Here's how individual regions and their gasoline inventory fared last week: East...

Very interesting information. Inventories are up and yet the local price at our pumps went up 49 cents per gallon. So much for the supply vs. demand theory.

Unfortunately these reports no longer have any value as they do not impact the price that we pay at the pump. That price is being artificially manipulated.

The price of oil is taking off like a rocket, up more than a dollar a barrel each of the last three days. Sounds like pure speculation at work to me.

east coast usually has the lowest refinery output therfore prices are always higher. if we didn't export distillates we would have a surplus for the year.
