A refinery fire Wednesday has the potential to temporarily throw a towel in to a recent run of declining prices in a few Great Lakes states in the week ahead.

According to several sources, a refinery fire hit Citgo's Lemont, IL refinery outside Chicago and resulted in several units going offline at the facility. While no one was injured, damage reports have not yet surfaced. Gasoline markets were already responding, however, with wholesale gasoline prices spiking initially.

The only caveat is that motorists may not see prices rise at the pump, rather prices may not decline as far as they otherwise would. In the three days before the accident, wholesale prices in the region had fallen to their lowest level in 2013, but rising...

Set to drop? You need to come to Greedway country. We jumped 20 cents last week, and another 40 today.

Better for all the other refiners, terrible for Lemont and Midwest consumers.

of course, the argument is, there's not enough distilled product to sell, so the price has to rise, right? (hmmm.. how convenient for Pig Oil...)

Honda: I am watching stations here jump 30-40 cents today. I doubt Florida is seeing that kind of action today.

Refinery fire hits just as gas prices set to drop. Fire in a unit that process crude oil - Damn, it's always something! More diligence needed so refinery fires are fewer and far between And there is less impact on fuel prices at the pump. Fuel prices may not rise but they will not drop as much as they would have without the fire. Now where did that guy go with the match for the governments very expensive health care program? Burn that crap and get rid of it forever!
Drive vehicles with high MPG, are very safe, reliable, have a ‘reasonable’ cost and a good ‘value’ for the money.
The price of fuel at the pump is too high!
