Iowa officials want to boost ethanol consumption in the state using taxpayer funding, even as motorists continue to show little interest and a major Iowa newspaper publishes an ethanol editorial saying ethanol isn't the answer.

[QS]Gov. Terry E. Branstad, Lt. Gov. Kim Reynolds, agriculture Sec. Bill Northey and DOT Director Paul Trombino recently announced a new biofuels pilot program called “Fueling Our Future,” a public-private partnership that aims to assist in expanding the market for mid-level biofuels blends, building on Iowa’s history as a leader in ethanol and biodiesel development and production.

Through the use of current funding, the initiative will redirect federal funds to further leverage state dollars in...

Gov. Terry E. Branstad decides to force money out of your wallet and force you to take crap fuel in return. It should be called “Stealing Our Future,”

A gallon ethanol only contains about 65 percent of the energy of a gallon of gasoline.

Let the market decide. What ever happen to "Liberty" the freedom to choose?

Vote him out. The ethanol debacle, defined outer limits of government foolishness.

This will go away when "common sense" returns, as main stream thinking. How come people in the other 49 states, do not have a say in where federal dollars should be spent.

Either the voters of Iowa approve of this use of taxpayer funds or they do not. Voter pressure can change this state government agenda either before the next state elections or when those state elections occur.

I don't think that it should be tax payer subsidized. Ethanol is possible as long as gasoline is over $2.00/gallon. Below that it is cost prohibitive. It should be self sustaining.

I recently saw a reference to current fuels as 'corn subsidy gas' - very apt phraseology

A public-private partnership is one where the public money is used to increase privet financial gain and get funds to pay for select political agendas.

ethanol in gasoline is a total waste. check your mileage with and without it. the more ethanol, the less mileage. it's like it isn't even there.

Keep the percentage at 10%. It does not make economic sense for it to be higher unless you are a corn farmer.

Any unbiased report on comparison between ethanol blend and ethanol free gas.
I believe the corn used is extra produced for that purpose. I don't think to my recollection ever seen corn on menus in most places I have dinned.
