(GasBuddy Press Release) ‘How low could they go?’ That’s what reporters are asking from coast to coast as Americans watch in envy of folks in Tulsa, OK, Lubbock, TX and St. Louis, MO where gas prices are poised to break below $3 as the average price for their respective markets.

Already, St. Louis consumers are seeing some stations at $2.79; while Tulsa has some stations at $2.85 per gal. In Lubbock today consumers can pay as low as $2.89 or as high as $3.59 per gal.

“While the direction of current prices reflect what we can expect for Q4 fuel prices, it’s certainly encouraging to see how many states already have stations with regular gas available for under $3,” said Patrick DeHaan, senior petroleum analyst, GasBuddy...

I noticed when the government was "shut down" gas plummeted, but once they went back to "work" it was back at $3.30 a gallon!

I was living in St Louis and YEAH gas prices above $3.00 was expensive in St Louis. $2.53 was about right back in June 2012. It just means they are getting back toward normal now. The word "already" just doesn't hit home for me.

We have such high gas taxes in Cali. :S

It won't happen in California as long as we have 71 cents per gallon in taxes, a President who obstructs oil production on federal land and water, and the cap-and-trade law here.

As I read replies from many states about the prices not being below in their states, I wonder how many know their state's tax on gasoline. There are 19 states who have taxes and fees above the national average of $0.494 per gallon. Perhaps their prices would be below $3.00 per gallon, too, if their taxes were lower.

Northwest suburban Chicago prices went *up* $0.20 Monday evening. God bless GasBuddy, it showed me the one station in my neighborhood that lagged behind the spike.

Never happen in CA because the elected "leaders" will see an opportunity to increase State income - since we are all so used to prices above $3/gal.
Funny how the Sacramento area ALWAYS has the lowest prices in the State...

Oil producing states should pay high prices!!
They have employment which in turn have purchasing power.

The minute obama got elected gas prices started to sore higher! The minute this gov is forced to shut-down and curb spending gas prices started to decline. Time to stand up to Obamacrap, crazy spending, and re-ignite the economy!

Did you think we would see a time when regular gas prices below $3 a gallon would be something to cheer about? Thanks a lot, Obozo. Don't let those evil oil companies drill on OUR public lands!
