Ding! If you notice your phone chirping at you in the coming days it may be because we're testing new features in our GasBuddy app. You may have already read that in the latest app version, we added a feature that will notify you if prices are jumping sharply in some communities.

As GasBuddy learns how gas prices work in each one of over 250 communities across the U.S., we're going to start alerting you to big big price spikes in your communities. Today we're just starting testing on that feature. If you're in the Twin Cities today and signed up for notifications or allow them on your smartphone, you may have noticed a GasBuddy notification that prices are going up (and they are, so I hope you've filled up!). We're using data reported...

Usually I'm at work when I get the GB notifications. And by the time I get out, the prices have already risen. Sigh.

If all these messages are going out to cell phones, how many people are pulling over to read them?

I wonder how many read them while they continue driving along.

if there is no opt out button, I'll uninstall that app rather than deal with the constant barrage of distractions while driving.

My push notifications are off already, as they are for most of my apps. Good to have options, but IMO this is better for the nonmember user (or not-very-active member) who only fills his tank every 2-3 weeks and doesn't have cause to pay attention to price patterns in between. Those of us who report every day can see these spikes and dips happening before our eyes already.

I'm amazed at how many people do not want options. I gather these notifications can be turned off for those that don't need them and turned on for those that would feel them useful. I applaud GasBuddy for a fantastic FREE application and services. Keep up the good work.

Saw that when I updated the app the other day. Not sure how useful it will be, but nice to have I guess.

Given the way Oblamer is playing Chicken Little with the govt shutdown & debt ceiling, the phones will be chirping alot soon.

a cell phone is a device that can make and receive telephone calls over a radio link while moving around a wide geographic area. PERIOD
