Should motorists be worried as Tropical Storm Karen heads for a U.S. land fall somewhere between Louisiana and the Florida Panhandle?

No, say GasBuddy analysts, who observe that almost all tropical systems destroy some near term demand when making U.S. land fall, but add that few storms render significant damage to the oil production or refining infrastructure.

Most of the U.S. Gulf Coast refining capacity is well west of probability cones for land fall. In Texas, for example, clusters of refining include 663,000 barrels per day of output near Corpus Christi; nearly 2.5-million barrels per day of Houston/Texas City/Baytown production; and about 1.5-million barrels per day of output in the Beaumont/Port Arthur Texas area...

Funny, those of us in the Greedway states have seen our prices jump 20-35 cents/gallon this morning.

Regardless, the price at the pump is still too high.

Gas prices likely to see little impact from Tropical Storm Karen. The states most likely to be impacted by the tropical system are those that feature some of the cheapest motor fuel prices in the country: Alabama, Georgia, Louisiana, Mississippi, and Georgia. Fuel prices may continue to drift lower this weekend. The hurricane season was very mild and no major storms came onshore. Hope the GasBuddy analyst is right and there is NO major impact on the gulf drilling rigs. Keep the fuel prices at the pump going down and down. Karen be a Scare'en?
Drive vehicles with high MPG, are very safe, reliable, have a ‘reasonable’ cost and a good ‘value’ for the money.
The price of fuel at the pump is too high!

Perhaps it has nothing to do with hurricanes, but gas prices are going up here, today.

Just exactly what I was thinking. I could be a GasBuddy analyst after I retire. Except for the fact I do not want to move to Minnisota. God forbid!

I'll be surprised if someone doesn't use the tropical storm to blame for gas price increases of some sort even though there is no reason to...
