Another week, another drop in gasoline prices across much of the United States and into Canada as well. The U.S. national average fell close to a nickle per gallon while prices in Canadian fell a more significant 3c/L. With the recent drops in prices, year on year prices in the U.S. stand over 30c/gal lower than 2012, while in Canada prices are 5c/L less than last year.

Stations in eight states now boast at least one gas station priced under $3/gal, and more states will likely join that number in the week ahead as retail gasoline prices continue to lose ground. As of this writing, spot gasoline prices were lower across the country again, which points to further attrition at gasoline pumps across the country.

Despite Senator Dick Durbin (D-IL) trying to stop progress,
we are finally seeing the benefit of huge $4 billion private dollar investment into expanding Whiting IN oil refinery to turn more heavy Canadian crude oil into gasoline for the USA. Yes, in the real world - heavy Canadian crude reduces retail gas prices!

There are so many stations with sub-$3 prices in Houston that to get on the low price list you have to be $2.96 or less.

Still more than $1.50 more than it should be even factoring in inflation.

Great for drivers ... but with the price of oil still holding above $100 a barrel, this seems counterintuitive.

Michigan won't be joining the other states any time soon with gas prices under $3 a gallon.

In reality, we're still on the same roller-coaster we've been on for the last few years.
Sure, prices drop down slowly, but then they spike back up .30 or .40 cents at a pop like they just did a few days ago.

Today's price drop is temporary, at best.

We might be less than last year, but the latest trend is flat. And it is just about always cheaper to buy gas anytime on Wednesday or early Thursday. Prices go up Thursday afternoon in preparation for the weekend. They tend to stay up through Monday and start coming down Monday night. Tuesday-Thursday morning seem to be the best time.
