Most motorists think they have it figured. They say gas prices always rise for the holiday. Well, they have for the last two Labor Day weekends, but they don't always. So if gas prices aren't rising because the holiday, why are they going up this time?

Well, if you've been paying attention to the news, you probably have seen what's going on in the Middle East- specifically with Syria. With military talk on table, there's concern that any short lived war could cause supply disruption, as it did when Libya flared up back in 2011. When there is unrest anywhere in the Middle East, it will cause oil prices to climb, and this time around there is no exception.

Second, in prior years, hurricane season has come into play. Disruption...

always happens. Oh, the excuse is that we're switching to winter fuels, right? Well, it's still in the 90s here. And will be for another several months. Hard winter ahead or not.

Next 'scuse....?

Stay out of the middle east period from now on forever--all the American citizen gets out of it is national debt and high fuel prices---and worse than anything our soldiers killed in action, and for what? We should have never started with the early 70s wars, damn sure should have never invaded Iraq-and for sure should never go into Syria.

Just think if W-Cheney would have not lied us into Iraq,we would still have affordable oil,a trillion and a half plus interest,5000 soldiers would still be alive-and China and Russia would not have their hands on an ocean of cheap oil.

I think the third one is the worst-our problem now is that we no longer have a source of affordable oil on earth,China and Russia jumped all over that.

The reason the Arabs raised oil prices and created OPEC after the early 70s gulf wars was our support for Israel---the reason we have $4.00gal gas today and had $4.00gal gas five years ago is W-Cheney's invasion of Iraq--without that massive shutdown you cant drive the price up high enough to develop leftover way too expensive frack and shale oil-----now 90% of US developed oil is frack oil------do you know what company supplies the equipment for fracking operations? Halliburton. If Obama pushes us into the middle east again it will only get worse, and on top of that China has been developing Iraq's giant cheap ocean of oil for years and now Russia is getting in on the deal.

Oil is trading in the rest of the world and it's down today. Obama's decided not to engage in saber rattling until Congress comes back in a week. He wants to get a coalition of the willing and so far nobody but France is willing.

I did the area gas prices between 1:20 PM and 2:00 PM and they haven't twitched a cent.

This Middle East thing has been going on for hundreds of years and the only real disruption has been when the Arabs cut the flow in the 70's. Today, they all know how important the flow of oil is to their way of life that, if at all, there would barely be able blip of disruption in the flow of oil. As for hurricane season, if you're the guy that designed a refinery in a hurricane prone area and didn't take these storms into account during the design process then you're a moron, because hurricanes have been around a lot longer than the Middle East problems.

I know, big gov can lower taxes on it to make up the diff right? They make 3 times the profit so why not. Gov shouldn't make more than the the producers right? Edits to add gov to first sentence hehehhe.
