According to the AP, for the first time, Ford is making its Fusion sedan in the U.S.

The AP says that the company's Flat Rock, Mich., plant near Detroit will start making the Fusion Thursday. Ford hired a second shift of 1,400 new workers to make the Fusion at the plant, which also makes the Mustang sports car.

The plant will be able to produce 350,000 Fusions per year, 30 percent more than Ford makes at its plant in Hermosillo, Mexico.

The Fusion is one of the best-selling cars in the U.S. Sales this year are up 13 percent to 181,668 through July.

The Flat Rock plant was built by Mazda Motor Co. in 1987 and became a joint venture with Ford in 1992. Mazda stopped making vehicles in Flat Rock last...

Good news for the American manufacturing sector. Let's hope the unions don't screw it up.

Wish more US companies would follow Ford's lead. I'm tired of buying Hewlett-Packard, etc. and seeing 'Made in China' on the back. I hope I can outlive Jerry Jones so I can see the Dallas Cowboys win again and the same goes for these US companies making China richer and us poorer. Politians aren't helping but they are by far not the sole problem.

The fusion Hybrid is a beautiful car but people (many) are stating that it doesn't live up to the gas mileage that Ford is pushing out.

I would not have known the difference, but a choice between Mexico and the U.S. for car assembly would be a selling point for me.

Really....never knew the Fusion was a foreign car - sorry but with living Canada, Mexico is as foreign as oversees since I doubt many parts are sourced from here ...maybe some from USA but not here!! So even a Kia would be more domestic than the Ford Fusion, until now maybe!!!
Here, the top domestic brands are Hyundai, Toyota, Honda then a big drop to be Chev & Ford with Chryco way back on list. Soon, Kia may pass Chev for domestic non-truck vehicles.
