The Energy Information Administration released its weekly report on the status of petroleum inventories in the United States today.

Here are some highlights:

CRUDE INVENTORIES:
Crude oil inventories decreased by 6.9 million barrels to a total of 367.0 million barrels. At 367.0 million barrels, inventories are 10.4 million barrels below last year (2.7%) and are in the upper half of the average range.

GASOLINE INVENTORIES:
Gasoline inventories increased by 3.1 million barrels to 224.1 million barrels. At 224.1 million barrels, inventories are up 18.2 million barrels, or 8.8% higher than one year ago. Here's how individual regions and their gasoline inventory fared last week: East Coast (-0.1mb); Midwest...

Donatelo: that would be too much common sense and not enough money into the CxO's pockets of Pig Oil.

They love to have lots of excuses for raising the prices but at least the refineries are putting out more gasoline.

if we captured all the wasted energy from machinery running that could also have small electric generators connected to them from cars and trucks that could capture wind energy with small turbines put on the vehicles, to all the other wind and solar energy we could get by putting solar panels on top of our homes and buildings. we have answers looking us in the face, but most prefer to just grumble. we need to think outside the box. getting our own energy here would be like a tax break to us all.

2008 all over again. Gas will get so high that people can't afford anything else and the rest of the economy tanks. People lose their jobs because the businesses they work at are getting no money from sales. Those people then can't pay their mortgages or credit cards. But what do the speculators care, they got theirs.

The ebb and flow of inventories seems completely unrelated to the pump price of gas.

Sounds like the "perfect excuse" to raise prices even further! Just delay new shipments of oil a few weeks ... inventories go down, prices go up and ... Profits go up!

Interesting. Oil inventories are dwon but gasoline inventories are up. Yet the price at the pump is also up, at least here inthe Tampa area. Up 20 cents in the last week or so.

If gasoline inventories jump we need to see the bigger picture. Did they go up just because refineries are finally ahead of use or did they go up because consumers are using less? If refineries are the reason speculators may be expecting more shutdowns for maintenance and we'd be behind the eight ball again.

Somehow a 1.8% decrease in crude oil inventories becomes a "large decline" and justifies an upward jump in pump prices, while gasoline inventories increase 1.4%, which should be regarded as a "large increase" lowering pump prices, but speculators hold the prices higher...

They need to get their numbers right. The gasoline increase was said to be 3.1 million barrels but if you add up the region increases it only adds to 2.1 million barrels.
