After several weeks of seemingly declining gasoline prices, the day may be fast approaching that sees an end to the streak. In fact, across the U.S., some gas stations have already been passing along the increase in price as oil prices rise. Many blame the higher oil prices on turmoil developing in Egypt, concerned it may spread.

"After blaming higher gasoline prices on refineries for much of the early spring and summer, it now seems that higher oil prices may be to blame for an expected up tick in the national average," said GasBuddy.com Senior Petroleum Analyst Patrick DeHaan. "Oil prices have silently been tracking higher after tension in Egypt started to impact the market, driving oil prices higher. In turn, gasoline prices have...

Speculation, and the futures market is nothing more
then price manipulation.
If you say supply and demand is the reason, then build a damn refinery.
We lost half a dozen major refineries in the last ten years, have not rebuilt one!

Sad that PD (Patrick DeHaan) needs to mention his own statements in his blog. Must be a truly slow summer.

These days any old excuse is an excuse to raise gas prices. It would be nice if they would say any old excuse would do to lower gas prices.

Conspiratorial comments???? What you have seen the last ten years with fuel prices is A simle supply switch,A group of oil executives and oil men who were about to go out of business(picture being an American oil man and having oil at $20.00brl-how can you possibly make A profit at that price?)took over our government and cut out the big players in the oil business.Oil prices before the Iraq war were so low American oil men simply did not have A future. Many people are still asking why we invaded Iraq-if you know the history of Iraq and the history of the Bush family, the Cheney family, the Bin laden family, and the royal Saudi family-the answer to that is simple, most people in the US and Canada just missed it.There is no conspiracy, just take A half A day and read about it-most of the rest of the world already knows all about why Bush and Cheney invaded Iraq, it was in their best financial interests to say the least. Why do you think not one Iraqi oil contract went to any American companies?(China and France got most of those-both countries opposed the war)Please do some reading on this you will find that everything I post is backed by fact-I hate to be the one to break this to you but american oil development is VERY expensive the price of crude has to be at least $80.00 per barrel on average to start to see profit.-go ahead look it up.Sooner or later everyone on this site will realize(as I did years ago)that we've all been had-just take A look at the next article full of lies that pops up on this site.

Getting our own domestic energy on line (better pipelines etc) will help cushion these price flare ups in the future. But we ain't nearly there yet. And yes, those conspiratorial comments -- while fun to read -- and the beliefs that go with them transmit over to political policies and that's one of several reasons we are having trouble dealing with our energy problems. People just don't understand energy.

What is Obama suposed to do they are already drilling almost everywhere? You see what that got us-nothing $100.00brl oil.Was it Obama war policy that drove oil from $20.00brl to $145.00brl between 2003 and 2008?Is Obama A Texas oil man?is Obamas dad A Texas oil man? Is Obamas vice president A Texas oil man? NO. Do you think Texas oil men like when oil is $20.00brl or do you think they like it when it is $145.00bl? do you think Texas oil men care if you or I spend half our pay on gas?-----do you think companies developing oil in the US want oil at $20.00brl? Its not even worth developng hard to get US oil at $80.00brl profit starts after that-the only reason they started developing US oil again IS THE HIGH PRICE what do you think they are going to do give us A break and hand over their profits? If we let them develop more of our land they will export more of our oil-nothing else-all of this is ten years old already.Bush and Cheney did get oil to $1.75 A gal in 2008 before they left-but only by almost completely destroying our economy, the drop in price was only from the stock market crash-as soon as the market went back up so did the price of oil(ask any economist)---Obamas fault???? maybe A little bit,but the real damage was done long before we met Obama.

Egypt fears ? HOW STUPID. Egypt is an importer of oil not an exporter. The Suez canal is too small for large tankers so they travel around Africa. It is just an speculator excuse to raise and manipulate prices. WE are being robbed blind by big banks and super rich speculators who can manipulate prices.

None of us will see affordable gas again until we buy it from where it is cheap-you just saw the results of "drill baby drill"-they got what they wanted and then they exported it.The democrats told us that more oil development in the US would not effect the price of fuel-they were wrong,it seems the more we pump(and we are pumping more than we have since peak oil)the higher the price goes--the Koch brothers will pump their slime to the coast and export that too-they won't mess with the high price American oil they are all in this together---notice how the conversation has shifted from supply and demand to speculators? the reason for that is the supply was cut ten years ago,the only supply we have access to is high price American oil-(that is what they dont export)-when we demand access to cheap oil we will get cheap oil,and cheap oil comes from true oil rich nations(Iraq-Kuait-Venezuela-Saudi Arabia ect.ect.)

The bottom line is that Obama has done nothing to control oil speculation/prices, reduce our dependence on foreign oil, or improve our economy. His sole agenda is to cater to his tree hugging, stimulus sucking, union dominated, ultra liberal major contributors. As a result, we continue to be screwed at the pump, with our utilities, and with our taxes for out of control spending/regulations. Nothing will change as long as Obama is in office & controls the Senate. 2014 Elections are coming - stop this madness!!

People listened to the oil men on the right for the last ten years-"we have plenty of oil in the US we need to reduce our dependence on foregin oil"----I wonder why oil men would want the production switched from, say Iraq or Venezuela(both of them have easily accessable cheap oil)to VERY expensive American oil development-the US reached peak oil in 1970!the resources they are developing now are whats left over, the hard to get stuff-frack oil-shale-tundra oil-off shore oil ect.In Iraq you pull A tanker up to A harbor you open A valve and high pressure high quality oil fills the tanker up and they can do that for 100 years!(remember 600 oil wells shooting 300 feet in the air in Iraq and Kuait?)----They said we needed to get off foreign oil,but they never said it would be cheap and it NEVER will be.American oil costs $80.00 per barrel just to get it out of the ground-in true oil rich nations the oil almost jumps out of the ground, thats why its cheap--this is A simple rip off,A ten year robbery in progress-China and France are now getting Iraqs oil,and we could make A deal with Venezuela tomorrow for $30.00brl oil(but we never will)I wonder what people will do when the Koch brothers run their pipeline down the country and export it all?Do you really think American oil men will take A $10 or $20 per barrel beating? I dont.

We can thank the speculators that trade in crude oil futures with no plans to ever take delivery of a single barrel of oil for getting skittish and causing prices to rise
