As Michigan drivers deal with a spike in gas prices, Michigan Attorney General Bill Schuette today warned retailers against any attempt to take advantage of consumers by price gouging or price fixing.

"Michigan consumers are struggling with rising costs just as summer vacations are getting underway, making it hard on family budgets," said Schuette. "We will not tolerate unscrupulous behavior that violates Michigan law when it comes to gouging and price fixing. Gas retailers are warned: we are watching and will not hesitate to take action if you hurt consumers and break Michigan law."

Every day, year-around, the Michigan Attorney General's Office's professional legal team monitors the balance of wholesale and retail...

And so it continues, in Dickinson County MI 10-30-14 AM price 3.09, pm price 3.19. In Menominee just next door 2.70 for over a week. What is up with this! With just two owners for most of the stations this will continue until people speak up.

Political rhetoric to get his name in the news about something that's been going on for decades. Where's the US Attorney General?

This should be the job of Holder, the US Attorney Generals job of going after the oil companies for forming a monopoly. I think we all remember when they broke up AT&T for getting too big and made them sell off into "baby bells".

It's Michigan, which is controlled by Greedway. They'll just offer the AG a little hush money.

10 years of this not 4 we saw gas at $4.50 gal two years before we knew who Obama was.High priced fuel in USA and Canada is the goal.If the price of crude is not high its not worth developing our resources, and oil companies are buying mineral rights as fast as they can.Oil rich nations(if they are not stopped by war or lies)can easily flood the world market and drop the price WAY down.China is now getting most of the oil our troops died for in Iraq and Kuait,I wonder who will get the Venezuala oil ocean.

Once again, the politicians pander to the uninformed public, the low information voter. The ignorance of basic economics displayed on this site is nauseating.

Expect to pay more if there is less product -- basic economics. Don't live there, but I suspect the AG wants to run for something!

If the past is any good at indicating the future, Michigan is about to see a quick drop in prices.

There's still plenty of gas to go around in Michigan, Indiana, Illinois. No reports of stations running out of gas. No long gas lines as in 1973 and 1979. Still, the oil companies hike the wholesale price 36 cents overnight and 50 cents in five days. Why? Because they have the power to do it and get away with it. Seems opportunistic. They are gouging the retailers and in turn the consumers.

Every single one of us should have been "eyeing it" ten years ago when it went up 100% in one week and stayed there(or way worse)ever since.

It sounds good to some to just say if you cant afford it dont buy it I just wish it was that simple. The rediculous price of fuel for the last 10 years has driven our economy into the dirt. Some men who work where I work spend one weeks pay A month on fuel.Fuel prices to me are the most iportant political issue I cant belive more people are not concerned. There are at least five different things we can do to drop the price NOW if we work together.$2.00 gal or less you will see this country bounce back fast.
