As Memorial Day quickly approaches, motorists may be noticing gasoline prices in much of the U.S. and Canada have started moving higher.

The national average is the last week is up "just" a penny per gallon, but some states have been harder hit than others: Wisconsin has seen average prices rise 4c/gal, Indiana is up 6c/gal, Illinois is up 3c/gal, Washington is up 5c/gal, Oregon is up 6c/gal. And the pain may get worse for motorists along the West Coast where gasoline supply remains very tight following an extensive period of refinery maintenance that has left gasoline inventories 11.2% below their year ago levels, according to the California Energy Commission.

The news isn't so grand for the next week either, as oil prices...

Has anyone else had that high an increase in their state? I'm in Kansas and it went from $3.24 to $3.62 in rapid fashion. Every day it went up a little. Sometimes even in the same day. There is no real reason for this, other than ripping us off.

Oil thieves is right. 40 cents a gallon increase in 3 weeks? The only way to be more greedy and crooked is to have a mugger pump the gas for you.

It seems if we drive prices gotta go up, if we don't there's a very slight decrease. Change in the weather prices may go up or down. Any excuse.

Big Oil knows when to raise prices, right before the first of the month to hit those on a Pension and right before Holidays with Congress not stopping their Monopoly.

Nothing new there. Same old thing with proces soaring well before summer gets here. Unfortunately we will be seeing prices stay up around $4.00/gal.

I would like gas to be capped at 3 a gallon for the next few years, that would help economy, and diesel engine should run on our vast natural gas reserves.

I would love to see gas at $3.26, instead of $3.70.

With the glut of crude oil I would hope the price of gasoline would come down.

If oil prices cool off this week and fail to continue their rally, we still could see a downward trend develop just in time for the Memorial Day weekend. I'll be optimistic, but not holding my breath.
