Cellcontrol and Esurance recently announced a partnership that will allow parents to place devices in vehicles that it says will be effective in preventing distracted driving.

The small device can block mobile phone calls, texts, email, Internet, and other smartphone applications while the car is in motion, keeping teens focused on the road, reducing distracted driving, and helping to save lives, according to a press release.

It works like this: Esurance customers simply download the free app, plug a small device into their car’s on-board diagnostics (OBD) port, and enter the settings for as many devices as they want to control, including laptops and tablets. Another great idea to stick hands in my pockets for more coin. I'm pretty sure the insurance companies will get a hold of this and make it a mandatory requirement for policies. Pretty sure the government will be sticking their hand in our other pocket as well. These great ideas always cost the little man more money than he can afford. Stick the idea up your ass and start issuing $500.00 fines for those who continue to talk on their phones while driving. Now there is a solution that makes sense and you'll find people paying a little more attention to the roads in front of them.

All this because of a lack of discipline and common sense.

only way to cut down texting and driving is to make devices that don't allow for an optional turn off. Of course, that means, anyone in a vehicle would be unable to use their devices...

And while we're at it, let's require all smokers to take some sort of antabuse so that they won't be tempted to stand outside my favorite restaurant and pollute the air.

How can anyone be in favor of killing people with air pollution?

Sounds like a Big Brother stupid law that will impair freedoms. There are very valid reasons to allow people in moving vehicles to use a cell phone and then your broad brush law will likely delay notification of the authorities in an emergency situations.

Using a cell phone is not against the law in the City of Houston. Guess you must actually live in one of the nanny state suburbs.

>Impound the car and lock up the drivers if they're caught.

Sounds like an approach the Nazis would have approved.

I thought the government was dead set against cell phone blockers in any form. If I could legally drive with a cell phone blocker with a 50-foot diameter I'd buy one in a heartbeat.

These devices should be built into cars by the manufacturers and paid for by the cell phone providers. The cell phone providers created the problem and they should pay for the solution to the problem.

These should be installed on all cars, and not just by an insurance company. Cell phone use is against the law in most states, and just makes sense not to have them available in a moving vehicle.
