The Energy Information Administration released its weekly report on the status of petroleum inventories in the United States today.

Here are some highlights:

CRUDE INVENTORIES:
Crude oil inventories increased by 2.7 million barrels to a total of 388.6 million barrels. At 388.6 million barrels, inventories are 26.2 million barrels above last year (7.2%) and are above the upper limit of the average range.

GASOLINE INVENTORIES:
Gasoline inventories decreased by 0.6 million barrels to 220.7 million barrels. At 220.7 million barrels, inventories are down 1.2 million barrels, or 0.6% lower than last year. Here's how individual regions and their gasoline inventory fared last week: East Coast (-1.1mb); Midwest...

The game is rigged to our disadvantage so it appears. The US needs to find a way to hang on to more of these exports without the oil prices being driven up for doing so or production decreased for doing so. Don't think China or Brazil wouldn't do it.

Could this perhaps be due to the sell down prior to the switch to warm weather blends? Regardless, it sounds like a perfect reason to push prices up and up and up!

We need of find the refineries to process all of that oil because our crude oil inventories have been going up and and our gasoline and distillates inventories have been going down.

And the latest on gas prices: “We had a price hike on Monday (boo!), but today wholesale prices dropped like a rock, and the price to retailers tonight is about $3.33, by my calculation. With retail prices near $3.79 in Michigan, we have a long way to drop. So, expect lower prices in the next several days. — Ed Aboufadel

oil inventory up. gas inventory down. maybe if the higher oil inventory was used to make gas, both the oil and gas inventroy would be stable?
