The Energy Information Administration released its weekly report on the status of petroleum inventories in the United States today.

Here are some highlights:

CRUDE INVENTORIES:
Crude oil inventories increased by 3.3 million barrels to a total of 385.9 million barrels. At 385.9 million barrels, inventories are 32.5 million barrels above last year (9.2%) and are above the upper limit of the average range.

GASOLINE INVENTORIES:
Gasoline inventories decreased by 1.6 million barrels to 221.2 million barrels. At 221.2 million barrels, inventories are down 2.1 million barrels, or 1.0% lower than last year. Here's how individual regions and their gasoline inventory fared last week: East Coast (-0.9mb); Midwest...

Doesn't really mean anything. They can massage the numbers all they want and say whatever they want, and the pump price will continue up regardless

We are in a transition stage per big oil, changing from winter to summer and maintenance. Any excuse to keep prices high and inventories going down.

Ever since BIG OIL was able to wrangle the export of large quantities of refined gasoline without tax penalty, the laws of supply and demand have been effectively foreclosed. Until this rather salient element is reversed, BIG OIL will be able to charge pretty much what they want.

Diesel is used for trucking our food and ethanol is still down...

DISTILLATE (diesel, heating oil) INVENTORIES:
Distillate inventories increased by 4.5 million barrels to a total of 115.3 million barrels. At 115.3 million barrels, inventories are now 15.2% lower than a year ago. Total distillate inventories stand 20.6 million barrels lower than their year ago level.
