Gasoline prices are lower than they were a year ago in the United States. And not just in a few cities, but every major city that GasBuddy tracks- some 166 of them across all 50 states. Prices in some areas are over 50 cents per gallon lower than where they were this date last year- like in Chicago and nearby Gary, Indiana.

And while the savings isn't that substantial in some areas, even the U.S. average is down some 24 cents per gallon versus this time a year ago. Even at the bottom of the list, Fargo, North Dakota is seeing prices 4.6 cents per gallon lower than last year.

Motorists, however, seem skeptical. In fact, on the GasBuddy Facebook page, some users expressed disbelief and argued that prices were higher than...

Get below 3.00 a gallon for regular, and then you may see a bit of a smile on my face.

It's like being charged $20 for a stick of gum in year, and then the pice drops to $19.95. Still, way too much.

so far, prices ain't dropping much. Jumped 65 cents in less than a week back in late January. Still only has dropped about 25-30 cents in gasoline prices and less than 10 cents in diesel.

Complaining about gas prices being too high, when they're lower than a year ago, is much like complaining about taxes, when they're lower than they were in 2000.

Prices are too high. Inflated by petro industry at their whim. No justification.

It has declined to $4.087 average here in Los Angeles. It is definitely nothing to get excited about. Obama will take us back to new highs this year just like he did last year.

It makes little to no difference what gas was there and then, if it is high here and now. Needless to say the here and now counts only during low pump periods while high pump periods have no place in the world of working stiffs.

I don't know if gas prices are lower than last year for the US, but here where I live, in Ontario Canada, I'm sure they are higher than last year.

Does GasBuddy have any numbers for Canada?

swkcpi - "I just drove through the Illinois money grabber know as the toll-way and saw gas at $4.25 in Gary and Mobile all along the highway was $4.09. Now you're telling us that's less than it was last year? Right!"

You said so yourself: "the Illinois money grabber know as the toll-way". Get off the tollway to find cheaper gas.

Gas prices are lower than a year ago? Gas prices need to be much much lower!
Big Oil and Big Gas sells fuel and natural gas on the world market for higher prices.
The US ‘oil and natural gas resources’ belong to the citizens of this country and are to be used by those same citizens! The price at the pump needs to go down to $2/gallon - *$3, *$3.50/gallon or *$4.00 is Not the new low!
Fuel prices at the pump will Not be cheaper with 'imported' Canadian crude oil destinated for the Gulf Coast Refineries.....
More Refineries are Not the answer, Stop exporting fuel is!
Take care of the domestic fuel market first and above all else before exporting and selling our fuel on the world market!
Drive vehicles with high MPG, are very safe, reliable, have a ‘reasonable’ cost and a good ‘value’ for the money.
The price of fuel at the pump is too high!

$3.oo is too much repeater1. We shouldn't be paying more than $2. That's what they told us in class.
