Two bills are pending in two committees in the Lone Star State, but both are asking lawmakers to authorize drivers to display electronic proof of insurance coverage to government officials.

According to onlineautoinsurance.com, During a March 6 Senate committee hearing, Bo Gilbert, government relations vice president for USAA, offered support for SB 181 from the Texas-based insurance carrier, which is geared toward military and service members. SB 181 would be effective upon its passage.

Also testifying in support of the bill was the Texas Coalition...

Good idea since Illinois State Reps voted to allow illegal Mexicans to get a
drivers license. How many are NOT getting insurance though. Illegal does not mean illegal any more, except to the law.

Paper confirmation is fine for me ... an electronic version would be just one more piece of information available for identity theft.

Rad-rose, it's not news. PD is one of the GB gods whose blogs make up the first two of the five "news" listings.

The question isn't. Can insurance companies post your ID online for you. Mine already does this. The question is. will this allow you to avoid of fine for not having your credentials (the best thing would be to have both). There is also the issue of the cop thinking you might shoot him with your cellphone And shooting you in self "defense".

Can they also check for citizenship electronically? Oh yea. The Obama has asked the agency to block states from that site.
