When our elected representatives fail to follow the laws that preserve public safety, it's disappointing. But, it reminds us that they're human.

Unfortunately, when they make poor choices in their personal life and behave recklessly, it undermines our confidence in their abilities and decision-making to manage anything.

Idaho's Senator Michael Crapo is the latest member of Congress to behave badly. Police in Alexandria, VA, a suburb of Washington, DC, arrested him after he ran a red light at about 12:45 am on Sunday and also failed field sobriety tests.

Police said the legal limit in Virginia is a blood alcohol content at .08 percent, but Sen. Crapo registered a .11 level.

Evidently, there's little incentive to "set the example"... 7 days no driving? Slap on the wrist? It has to start hitting violators a LOT harder than what was mentioned here...

I hold a city council position. Public officials should be held to a higher standard. More importantly, that standard should be self-imposed. I impose one on myself.

That gotta hurt!!! Serves him right, but you still have to feel a little sorry for him, as a person in his position. Hopefully it will teach him a lesson.

I have met Mike Crapo years ago while we waited for our baggage at our local air terminal. A more humble and unassuming man you could never find. He has represented us here in Idaho with a lot of vigor and I will not allow this incident to define the man.

I often try driving the speed limit and damn near get rear ended and have alot of close calls from a speed standpoint.

It's funny that people are amazed by these people's actions. Politicians don't live by the same rules you and i do ,not even the same morals!

This is only one example of politicians being dui. I hear about one of these happening about every other week.
