Students from across Canada are invited to bring their passion for energy solutions to compete at the Shell Eco-Marathon Americas 2013, where teams will attempt to build a vehicle that can surpass the 2012 fuel efficiency record of more than 900 kilometers traveled per litre.

The seventh Shell Eco-marathon Americas is now open for online registration to high school and university students from across North and South America. The competition will take place in Houston April 5-7 2013.

Shell Eco-marathon is held annually in the Americas, Europe and Asia. The event challenges students to take their fuel-efficient vehicles and compete with other schools to see who can travel the farthest distance using the least amount of energy...

It's always a good thing to get the younger generation involved. We may surprised as to what they will come up with.

That's all fun and dandy for the classroom, but when you have to meet minimum safety and emissions regulations, the real world can lay a smackdown

To us412: I wonder how one could find out what did trickle down? I haven't seen any trickle down from Republican trickle down economics. If anything, it's been suck it up and tell those you have ruined to suck it up. But enough about how Romney made his money.

Do any of these ideas ever "trickle down" for everyday use?

It's good to tap into the brains and ingenuity of young people in High School and College. They're still capable of thinking out of the box and have a vested interest in the future....they're going to live there!

Almost makes me wish I was back in college.

Way back when I was in college, I worked on a hybrid-electric vehicle. Sure, I only did manual labor on a protective housing for the batteries, but it still was cool to have my mind so open to learning.

They need to change these competitions to create a high milage vehicle that can carry 4 people and maintain highway speeds and recognized safety standards. Currently these competitions end up creating motorized bicycles with a teardrop shaped body that carries one person with zero cargo. Not very useful in the real world.

Shell Canada Challenges Students to Push Limits of Fuel Efficiency and new out-the-box ideas from fresh minds for higher vehicle Fuel Efficiency.
Whatever the size or shape of the vehicle, Produce and ‘Drive’ vehicles with high MPG, are very safe, reliable, have a ‘reasonable’ cost and a good ‘value’ for the money.
The price of fuel at the pump is too high!
