Higher fuel prices = consumers buying more fuel-efficient vehicles. Not exactly rocket science, eh folks?

l have 2(two)Hyundai Excel's . my '91 has 215K miles .replaced the 155r13 with 185r13 and increased fuel economy from 35 to 42mpg and did a lot of hauling sometimes with a loaded construction materials up and down mountains.it probably has more than 215k miles because of the over sized tires and it still does not burn oil. its a parts car( a little bit rusty) now because three ago l picked a second which is a 94 which had 85k kilometers and it just turned 100k kilometers but only gets 35-37mpg because of 165r13 tires. almost as a good as a Toyota prius but MUCH cheaper as l paid 500$ for 91 10years ago and the 94 for a 1000$. body is super on the 94.

PathfinderSC: Most of the ASIAN cars don't get the fuel economy they claim. My Ford Fusion is rated for 23 mpg average, I've gotten 30 mpg average over the 35,000 miles I've logged on it, and I'm not alone. Go to fueleconomy.gov and look at real world estimates by the people who actually drive the cars, that will tell you what they actually get. Mine is a 2006 Fusion with the 5 speed manual, average user gets 28 mpg combined. Our own government is the domestic car's worse enemy.

discover02:if you figure you get 20+ on an exploder,i think you don't know how to figure mileage, unless it's all down hill.i know people with 4cyl. rangers that don't do that well.think what you could do with a volt[95 mpg]WOW.when the mpg standard gets to 51 pickup trucks may be outlawed.with the increasing price of gas,we probably won't be able to drive them anyway.i'm going to get a slide in camper and put mine up on blocks and live in it!!!

people have to realize that the only way we can make these figures go up is to buy more economical cars.don't wait for someone else to do your part.don't buy a truck that is jacked up high enough to take the top off everything you hit to protect yourself.keep your bumpers below 18 inches high and let our children live.

I saw a news report saying that cars sold by 2025 will have to be able to attain 51 miles per gallon, that will be amazing if it actually does happen.........

.......fuel economy rises in August - likely due to a surge in gasoline prices, average new vehicle fuel efficiency rose. Driving SUV's and single driver pickups that will never haul or tow anything does not help the average MPG either. Keep that ethanol crap out of the gasoline and the fuel MPG will be much better for all! Vehicles can get much higher MPG and the auto companies and Big Oil know that. Whatever the size or shape of the vehicle, Produce and ‘Drive’ vehicles with high MPG, are very safe, reliable, has a ‘reasonable’ cost and a good ‘value’ for the money. The price of fuel at the pump is too high! 12/22/2012! ------------------------------------------------ Whatever the size or shape of the vehicle, Produce and ‘Drive’ vehicles with high MPG, are very safe, reliable, has a ‘reasonable’ cost and a good ‘value’ for the money. Really? This is pretty sad! I have a 13 year old Bi-fuel Contour that gets much better mileage per gallon then what is being reported here. Getting nearly 40 mpg on long trips using CNG or gas.

And my '11 Ford Crown Vic averages near 22 mpg overall. This study is just another waste of our money in useless college studies. The Ford can fit a Fiat in the trunk and still get that mileage and carry 6 people in comfort.
