"We must go forward cautiously and consolidate each acquired position, because already the inferior social stratum of society is giving unceasing signs of agitation.
Let us make use of the courts....when, through the law's intervention, the common people shall have lost their homes, they will be more easy to control and more easy to govern, and they shall not be able to resist the strong hand of the Government acting in accordance with....the control of the leaders of finance.
[We] must keep the people busy with political antagonisms. We'll therefore speed up the question of reform [of tariffs within] the Democratic Party; and we'll put the spotlight on the question of protection...[for] the Republican Party.
By dividing the electorate this way, we'll be able to have them spend their energies at struggling amongst themselves on questions that, for us, have no importance whatsoever."
United States Bankers Magazine, 1892.

The democratic party and the republican party are two sides of the same coin....and the bankers own the coin.
As long as the electorate treats elections like a football game, where backing the winning team is all that counts, nothing will change. They are just too lazy to think for themselves and pick a team that said something once that they liked. Lazy.
If you won't do the necessary homework to educate yourselves about the issues, stop throwing pies at the "conservative trash" and "liberal scum" and throw both parties out. Vote for an independent, another party, your neighbor, hell your DOG! but stop wasting your votes on these two bought and paid for parties who don't give a tinker's dam what you think.

Those of us here have to begin to realize a lot sooner than we have that many of our representatives don't care what we have to say. We tried voting quite a few out this past November but it seems the leftovers and some of the newbies have picked up "business as usual". We have to figure out how to get the rest of the message or get term limits passed. We have to find a way to enforce that upon them or it just continues, as does the voter apathy and name recognition which doesn't do the country, or any of us, any good.

Ironically, I read this just after reading the article linked on the front page that says the subsidies are being included in the tax bill. We are not only addicted to oil and corn, we are addicted to subsidies!

Let ethanol live or die on it's own merits. It's time to end the insane subsidies bestowed on it by our deaf "representatives" in Washington.

"So the government has we the tax payers paying a dollar a gallon more for ethanol than fair market value."
We pay more than fair market value for gas due to the oil companies getting subsidies. Eliminate theirs first. Use it toward solar/wind. Big Oil has had enough billions in record profits and subsidies over the years.

Eliminate the tariff on ethanol. Aren't we into free trade. let see 45 cents in tax credits and 54 cent import duties. So the government has we the tax payers paying a dollar a gallon more for ethanol than fair market value. 54 cent at the pump and a hidden tax of another 45 cents.

Why would we want to export it anyway? Let them make their own. Selling it will drive the price of it in the US.

They are going to extend them in this latest tax bill, unless we write in and "JUST SAY NO" to coin a phrase. It is time to stop all this and let others supply it or sugar cane and let us make it cheaper and save our food supplies. Contact your congress person and senator and ask them to say no to this part of the bill. Why add it on just to get a few votes to pass the entire bill. They will work it out in the long run and can repeal the tax increases if it goes into the next year. Other countries should be able to grow sugar cane and either process it or send it on to us with no extra cost.

Rise in price of food stuffs due to corn used as ethanol most undoubtedly will also happen to electricity when mass usage of electric cars tax the grid disrupting supply & demand balance.

I don't get it. 90% of the folks on this board understand that ethanol subsidies are a complete boondoggle, yet these politicians continue to get away with continuing them to satisfy the powerful farm lobby. Make it stop!!! We are supposed to own this govt. This is OUR tax money.
