While I could jokingly say $76 dollars of today's oil price of $77 is speculation, that wouldn't be quite accurate. No one knows- myself included- what that value may be. However, I'll try to break down the influences behind $77 oil. It would be difficult for me to endorse today's prices as being legitimate, but perhaps I can help you understand what is pressuring oil prices higher, and what is pressuring oil prices lower. No one asks when oil was at $30 last year how much speculation had dropped the price below its true price. Truth is that speculation can make prices swing away from its natural price - in either direction. A speculator can make money on prices going either up or down.

True, some of the price has been affected by speculation, but greed -- come on, greed is integral part of capitalism.
