WASHINGTON (AP) — The prices U.S. companies receive for their goods and services fell in May, offering evidence that inflation is mild.

The producer price index, which measures the cost of goods and services before they reach the consumer, dropped 0.2 percent last month, the Labor Department said Friday. The decline was driven lower by cheaper food and gas, and follows two months of strong gains that had suggested inflation might be perking up after being dormant for two years.

In the past 12 months, producer prices have risen 2 percent, matching the Federal Reserve's inflation target. That's down from an annual gain of 2.1 percent in April.

"The underlying details of the report suggest that producer price inflation is still fairly contained despite the big increases in the last few mon

Producer price changes of 0.2% will mean better margins instead of price declines for the consumer. Increases, however, will be passed on immediately.

man you americans only know how to complain about gas prices but all drive your v8s you are a net importer of gasoline yet complain. Canadians are screwed every day by our price of gas and considering we produce 1million more barrels then we use. Our prices are high as hell but canadians dont by trucks and other v8s like they used its to expensive we look at the future unlike americans look just ahead

Where? Everytime I turn around gas prices are going up. Typically after they settle a little from their previous spike, they spike again. I find this story to be questionable.

Diesel taxes are higher than gas taxes, another invisible tax to consumers, as trucking pass their cost along and increase the prices.

In any case, gas prices have been creeping up here. I miss those days of $1.85/gal gas in January 2009, before Obummer seized control through deception.
